Just wondering..

The engine of a 440 would fit the 300 serie right? What renault models do have the same engine and more power? Are there diesel eninges that fit with ± 150 pk..

A result like this.. would laufh the hell out of me: http://video.google.nl/videoplay?docid= ... 4521098320

Just sounds a great project to me.

(Don't worry, ill finish my 343 turbo ;))

Greets.. Frits

Yes to all

If you gt a Turbo Diesel from a 40 series then modifing it you can go close to 150 hp

A 440 diesel is very cheap here in holland. Diesel tuning is very interresting to me.

hhmmmm very interesting thought there...

I was reading myself into information about swapping a turbo (benzine) into my 360, I like the thought of diesel engine. Certanly now the le mans is won by diesel-power. What amound of torque will be reachable, and how to tune this engine??

To make it easy for yourself, take a 340 1.7 I think. About le mans, that is a complete other story, that engins don't even run on normal diesel.

I think that absurd torque's are reachable :P

A diesel engine works with overload of air. Basicly it means that if you put in more diesel, there is more power. And a big turbo would do wonders i think.

But I don't know how strong the 440 diesel engine is..?

Nissan 2 litre Turbo Diesel. I doubt it would be incredibly quick, but sadly have never had the chance to play with it, and looks like I won't get the chance now, it's got to go......... anyone interested?

Yeah I reckon the 400 series 1.9 TD would be a good lump in a 300, they're not bad at all, unlike the 400 itself! There should be a thread somewhere with some info on the 400 diesel into a 300. I believe someone in the UK has done it.......

Diesel lumps generally have stronger bottom end components, due to the compression!!!

Am I right in thinking a 440 TD is just an old mechanical TD engine? No smart arse electronic like modern ones? If so it'd be fairly easy to tune it yourself - they're simple lumps.

I looked into tuning the Pug/Citroen 1.8TD a few years ago, so know a fair bit about it :)

To throw a few figures about I know of someone running the said 1.8TD engine in a BX and is running 140bhp (standard is ~90bhp). And years ago I remember reading about a 1.9TD Pug engine in a 306 that was running about the same power and had 220lbfts of torque, which apparently made for a very interesting drive!

I know my brothers bog std BX 1.9 td was quite quick. You could dive on the govener in top all day long. My old man well burnt off a BMW on some good A roads around here :D

Could be interesting to run it with vegetable oil, cheap too, get used oil from McDonalds for free ;)

Here law is against such even that would be more green option too, also makes less noise and smoke, don't know how it is in your place however.

you can do it in england but must pay tax but in france we have been running our renault 5 diesel on sunflower oil for ages with no mods to the car , the main thing you need is a worn engine or high milage and as the injecters and other parts of engine are worn the thicker stuff seems to go through easy and there is less smoke less polution and more MPG and faster engine and longer engine life.

the 5 has done 270000km it didnt make smoke before but lots of people here use it and i was shown the difference.

an other thing you should change you diesel filter more offen or get a larger one as they block up quicker with oil errm what else...

ohh yeah dont put addives in it and if its running bad from blocking up put a bit put of diesel in .

NOTE: not all cars can run 100% on veg oil with out mods try putting 3 litters in every fill up of diesel and then more and more untill you see its limit from stalling and running ruff.

Dont know if this helps the veg side of it.

Cheers

Most of the older engines are fine vith veg oil but HDI can not be run with it as it will damage the fuel system. With the HDI even red will do harm.

Another thing with diesel engines is modern low sulpher fuel causes valve seat recession and eats the fuel system seals! There are aditives available to help with these problems.
Progress a funny thing eh :?

1.8TD ;)

I had a 1.9 n/a diesel BX for a while a number of years ago. Not particularly quick, but not as slow as you'd expect it to be either. That too would sit on the governor all day long at 100mph. Apparently ;)

(Any excuse to talk about BXs)

Here is just too cold also for vegetable oil, it won't be very liquid at -30C I believe ;)

That is of course possible to solve and I would like to see some development to be done to make it be better at cold should not be impossible with proper technology.

I think it was possible here too, if you pay loads more, same thing with electric car, amount that need to be paid was more than amount of petrol costs for a year so we are kindly instructed not to save planet
