Oil pressure and temp gauge

Post by Duvel78 » 10 Oct 2004 01:35 pm

Stupid question maybe but... is it possible to connect at the same time the oil temperature gauge and the oil pressure gauge??? Cause the sender for the temp gauge goes into the crankcase (it replaces the normal plug) and I guess it's the same place for the sender of the oil pressure gauge (or am I wrong?) and I only know one plug on the crankcase... :?:

I'm not wrong, but probably using the wrong word sm2 i'm talking about the bottom of the engine, the plug there.

Bottom of the engine = "carter" in french = crankcase in my dictionnary sm19

the pressure comes off where the existing pressure comes off, the temp comes off the plug which you take out in order to change the oil

Let's sum up: I see where the oil temp sender is on the engine, but where is the pressure oil sender located?

Aymat! You shock me! Are you seriously trying to tell me you don't have a GENUINE Volvo blue installation manual for this part?! Tsk....

The stock oil pressure 'switch' is by the alternator. There are two wires that run by the alternator - one red, one black - one to alternator (battery warning light?) and one to the OPS. If its a B200, the OPS has an M14x1.5mm thread, and you'll need a 24mm deep socket to remove it. It took me about 2 weeks to find out that information!!

Do you have an oil pressure sender already? If not, I'll look up the VDO part number for you. Be warned, it'll cost you about £45 for the sender!!

Anything else you need to know?! :-p Just ask the 'gauge guru' ;) ;)

cheers

Haha!!!   I plead guilty!!! I don't have the "GENUINE Volvo blue installation manual", manuals that I like sooo much... It's soo precious like gold... (I know I'm crazy  )

Thanks GAUGE GURU (sorry James, I forgot you had that title, I'm really sorry, i'll nerver forget that again  ) now I finally have the info about the sender localisation. I don't have the sender yet (do you know if it was the same sender on 240 / 740 models?) and the VDO part number interests me! :)

(are you really a gauge guru??? do you have the 3 gauges in your 360?)

As long as its from a B2x0 not a B2x, it'll be right. The B2x uses a 5/8" NPT thread, while the B2x0 uses the M14x1.5mm. I chose to replicate the original Volvo setup (its cheaper this way too!) of getting a 5/8" NPT sender, then using a NPT > M14 tapping to fit it to the block.

Would you like digicam pics?

Don't forget to use copper washers and/or PTFE (plumbers) tape to seal it all up, or you'll have an oil leak!

I only have the two oil gauges, as they're the only ones that'll fit and allow my to keep space for the controls for that levelling suspension kit I want ;) Joking aside, I know it can be done, but I'd rather use the (rare) gauge panel the way it was intended to be used.

cheers

Is that helpful? I can't get under it to get a pic of the thread adaptor / tapping.
