Hi

I have just soursed an engine loom and ecu from a renault 19 and was looking for help on the conversion

I hear its not too hard to fit the engine but its the wiring im not looking forward to - if anyone knows how to do this or would like a few quid to do it it would be a great help.

Also if there are things that crop up during the conversion that i might need to look out for?

Carbs would make the wiring a whole lot easier, and add a bit of power too.

Stick some yamaha R1 carbs on it - ultra cheap and very responsive (there was some advertised in practical perormance car this month for £100) never used them myself but apparently they're quite popular now

If you have the R19 loom, then use that, and I'd imagine the only wires you need to hook up are the power to the loom, ground to the loom, rev counter and starter, the rest should be self contained.

I bought my car with the 1.8 16v engine and running bike carbs, the guy I bought the car off did the conversion and has done a few times now so he reckons, he goes for bike carbs because as sum1 mentioned above, they make the loom process MUCH easier, I think the guy said theres only one sensor on the engine now and only needed about 4 wires to get the car up and running, and theres no ECU to faff about with either.

Plus they are more responsive and sound mint

How easy is it to fit the carbs - i have seen a website www.boggbros.co.uk

is this where you buy the manifold from? think it would be much easier as people are saying to go the carbs route if not a little more costly

I've heard boggbros are pretty helpful in telling you what you will need for the conversion etc so give em a ring

I've heard they can make manifolds up for the job for about £170ish which isn't bad at all.

To be honest if you go the carb route, one it'll be easier to fit, two it'll be easier to diagnose problems in the future (there are far less sensors and no ECU anymore) and three you should get slightly more power if not more response at least! Last but not least, they sound the tits haha! I love mine!

i have just took bike carbs of my 340 1.8 16v if u would like to buy them and the manifold? let me no.... THEY SOUND THE NUTTS! going cheap to a gd home.

see, how come when some of us say we'd like an lsd or performance front dampers they dont appear. Yet you merely utter the word bike carbs and some come shooting your way with a manifold too! (and I bet they are already tuned for your transplant, or he would maybe advise you )
