hello all!! i am having problems with my 340 dl,one of them is that the engine is losing oil, a lot of oil......
it lost oil trough the cap,i replace it,trough the camshaft cap gasket,replace too .....an still losing a lot of oil .....and i don't know what to doo :( can anyone help me pls.........
the right side of the engine is verry oily.......in fact,there is oil every where and i can't find out where it leaks.....!!!!!!
please help me !!!!!!

The rocker cover (cam cover) often leaks. Try wiping it down and look where the oil is coming from

i've replaced the gasket at the cam cap it doesn't leak trough there any more,it's something else at the midle of the engine on the right side

B14s like to leak from the fuel pump gasket.

the engine it's a b172k, and it's leaking smewhere at the midle of the engine on the right side(looking at the engine from the driver's seat)
that side from the midle down ,it's very oily.......what could it be
there's one more thin ,tne engine is making a high freq. noise not loud but ith's there and i was wondering if the two conditions are tight toghether??
someone told me that there might be problems with the compression and because of that the oil presure is too high and the oil escapes trough every where?? but the engine is runing good it has the strength that it should have........
so....

I don't have a lot of money and i like working on engines so i want to repair it myself(if possible)

Right side of the engine I'd imagine is either the fuel pump gasket, or the cam cover gasket (did you make sure you fitted it properly to the cam cover before putting the cam over on, they are hard to get right the first time (I didn't anyway!!!)

High pitched squeal... where abouts from the engine is it? If front I'd suspect the cam belt tensioners.

i think you r right about the squel,and the cam cap i've fitted allmost good,(i've used silicone when i've replaced the gasket) ,
it leaks very little,but i have that biger leak and it's not the fuel pump eighter, it's somewhere around the distribution belt but not only.could it be the cilinder head gasket?

Mine also leaks from the front crank seal, where the cam belt pulley on the crank is, I really should get round to doing it, but I havn't had the time lately

You need to wipe all the oil off and then see where it comes from. Once it goes everywhere and gets blown around by the wind etc then you really are only guessing where its coming from. Even go so far as to carefully degrease it if its really coked. Warm the car up thoroughly first and then spray an engine degreaser like Gunk on and then wash off. If the engine is hot then it'll all dry off quickly and not damage the electricals

Favourites have already been discussed, but also on very worn engines, you'll get a lot of oil coming from the breathers because they produce higher crankcase pressures. It does sound like front crank or cam oil seal.

BTW if the timing belt is squealing (are you sure its not the alternator belt?) then get that cover off and see what's going on before it snaps and you need a new engine If could be a worn bearing in the pulleys or it could be a knackered belt etc etc

i've found the answer to the leaking problem!!!!
the oil pump has a cork (cap) that has a PETRIFIED gasket !! i used silicone to seal it up(not the final solution)until i find a new one
at first it seemed to me too taht the leak is coming from the pulley at the distribution, belt but i was wrong
the cap i'm talking about is near the pulley on the lower right side of the engine,under the exhaust gallery.

Get the tensioner changed then mate, you don't want that to snap!!!

thx for the advice, i'll do that as soon as i have the money,untill than i'll avoid driving the car more than necessary

...one more thing.....a few days ago i took a look at the engine and i've noticed that the pipe from the oil separator(the one that leads the fumes from the sump) was cracked. i've fixed it and drove the car around (i've climed a steep slope). next day i saw that there was a lot of oil under my car .After that i've put the oil back to the level,made a crack with a knife in that rubber pipe(a crack about 2cm long)and drove the car some more......,and surprise ,no oil loss!!!!!!!!
anyone pls tell me what could be the cause of that!!!!!
