turbo in to my 340
turbo in to my 340
hi
have a 1.4 volvo 340, wanting to go quicker at some piont, will a 940 2.3 turbo fit in the 340 engine bay, obviously wiring and fuelling will have to be sorted, but is it possible to mate the prop to the engine? or will i ahve to change and fabricate parts?
cheers

You'd better get a 360, that's volvo-engined. Thats a lot less work, and you'll need a lot of parts of a 360 anyway. And even then: don't know if the manifolds of that engine fit in the enginebay...Some turbo's do, some dont...
If you want a tuning engine, go for a Renault 5 GTT (1.4 turbo) 440/460/480 turbo (1.7 Turbo) or a Renault Clio 16v/williams (1.8 to 2.0 16v)

The transmission on the 360 and 340 is different. If you want to put in a redblock based effort (any 2/7/9 engine) then it'll mate up to a 360. In a 340, you can fit engines from 4's, or R19's/clios/meganes (not all... but as a rough overview here).
So, if you want a hot engine for your 340, R19/Clio 16V lump, or 480 turbo.

It just involves a shed load more work in a 340xtrmjks wrote:"If You want Hot engine" go for 2.3 16v route, You won't be dissapointed!!![]()

Cheapest... easiest... hmmm, 2.0 from a 440, then valver, then 480T I'd guess. I *think* you can put the 440 2.0 in with no custom manifolds (I know you can do the air side, just not sure of the exhaust side, Dai would know, he's done it). Valver, I think (theres the knowledge who'll come along soon) that you either ditch the heater box, or cut and shut the inlet, not sure about exhaust. 480T, needs a new exhaust mani, can just about get away with using a random 440 inlet.
All in the great scheme of things arn't that hard, but if you can't weld up manifolds/bribe a mate too, you can get through £3/400 without trying.

For some serious horsepower Volvo engines are the choice but you'd need whole power line from a 360 so there's a bit more work.

I'd say it wasn't worth the effort for a 1.8 8v mate. It'd be no extra work to fit the 2.0, and scrappies are full of meganes/lagunas/volvo 400s so just grab one from there with as much wiring as you can get at.

I'm the world's worst at wiring, but whatever car you pull the engine from, it'll be fairly self-explanatory. Just follow all the wires from all the vital sensors etc, chase them into the loom as far as you can, and then ask someone better than me how to mate it all to a 340
Taking things from an injection car, you'd do well to grab all the fuel lines and the electric fuel pump. The locations of these will differ from donor to donor, but again just dig in and follow the lines into the car.
