Hi ChesterRedline
I had same trouble with my car
I think the cause there could be an air leak at joint between base of carburettor and inlet manifold . At this joint there is a (blue?) heat insulating piece . I was lucky enough to get another inlet manifold from a scrap car and get someone to fit it - then the problem was solved.
It is possible to test for leaks at this joint quite easily
Hope this is of help
cheers mickt

hi mate it sounds like its drawing air from a seal on the carb best way to test is to get the car running and whilst its doing that spray some carb cleaner around the outer body of the carb if its starts to run right then u have a air leak u can either rebuild the carb or find a scrapper with one in and try that
