Can someone make my mind up for me
The b230e conversion as easy as it may be seem's not to step on anyones toes pointless 131bhp doesnt seem worth it IMO.
Turboing the b200 in there looks in excess of £500 and still only 165bhp (going by that black one) for MS and bits, 50bhp for £500 seems alittle pricey
The only one i would consider is renault block for 144bhp seems pretty cheap looking about £120 for engine plus £60 for the guy who makes harnesses
The T5 why can i not find any info on this conversion at 230bhp and 130k (hardly used) engines common as dirt and cheap seems the only logical one! but no ones bothers with them i wondered why? imoboliser could be my only guess as engine mounts are pretty easy and i can alloy weld for bell housing

+Turboing the B200E isn't a bad idea and 165bhp on paper doesn't do justice to how well it actually goes in the car, and remember that was running only 7.5psi on a 13c

Why it hasn't been done before? It's the hardest build you can imagine...2 guys are busy with it. And a lot of people want to see some results first I think... Cause the engine doesn't fit at all from start. And take it for me...A B230 rebuild is hard enough for loads of people!
Would love the T5. But first wanna see some results of other people, and finish my valver...

The engine barely fits in thne bay without major work, i am in trhe middle of this conversion but its no where as easy as bolting a b230 in the bay. The T5 lump is a totally different bolting pattern for a start. Adapters are available but not chep.

Adaptors and engine mounts would probably sell pretty well.

From a power point of veiw you are best sticking to the red block as you have better tuning potential. The 5 pot has a nice sound but for hassle and to me teh sound is not worth it.

lol, I wouldn't bother with a t5... its very involved for little initial gain. You have to bear in mind that above 250bhp you will start fragging drivetrains left right and centre! - in which case, my suggestion would be to pick up a b230et for cheap and do a few simple mods to allow you to up the boost. Then you can have a 250bhp/ton volvo 360 with relative simplicity which ought to be enough to play with on standard brakes and suspension!! Not to mention much cheaper than a t5 conversion!

sorry dai, I've never met the guy before so I have no idea what his thought process is when building a car.... but based on what many people do(though often fail to do) which is stick in a massive engine without doing anything to the rest of the car I was making a general statement about the limits of a 300 to a regular owner/modifier.
I just put that line in there as a reminder that the rest of the car exists, hence the double exclamation mark.... personally I build the car to outhandle and outbrake the power first before considering an engine upgrade.

I thought you collected parts, to leave it all on the driveway for 18months to rust??
At least I drive the car whilst collecting

Hehe, the volvo would have all the parts fitted if it wasn't for the ridiculous cost to get a cage back when I was deciding what car to rally/build for fun...(how was I know that as soon as I got another car they would suddenly become common) hence I bought the project shopping trolley, and there is no way you can say I haven't done anything to that! - I practically assembled it from scratch! anyway, you and steve are both wrong, you drive a car of the same make and model whilst you collect parts for another car that you've left to rust for 36 months
