Hi
Have been driving my mum's 340 GL '87 for a while and the propshaft has now come apart twice - this time the splines have gone on both the prop and the bell housing!
I think I read somewhere on this forum that the propshaft on the 340 and 360 are exactly the same - can anyone confirm if that is correct and would the bell housing be the same on both models? Having some difficulty finding a 340 second hand spare at the moment.
Also another question - the clutch is slipping when weather is warm and I am in stop start traffic for a while. I understand clutch can be replaced while the prop shaft is off so thinking of getting that done too. Do I just need to get a plate or should I get the whole clutch 'set'? Car has done 84000 miles and is in very good condition apart from this problem with the propshaft and I am very reluctant to just scrap it.
Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Re: 340 Propshaft
Nop props are totally different, you need a propshaft from a volvo 340 manual, either 1.4 or 1.7 though.

Re: 340 Propshaft
I used to see this a lot, 'mechanics' believe that torque wrenches are for Engine internals only. 340 props should ONLY be tightened by an accurate torque wrench, otherwise they will usually be overtightened leading to stripping and loss of gripping force.
A local mechanic that worked beside a fellow enthusiast's home used to do work for him, and when I suggested that after a clutch change he torque up the drive shaft properly he laughed and gave me the nickname 'Torquey'. My mates drive shaft promptly fell off after a few days, I had a few nicknames for him after that.
New parts usually cost more than the car, when you could get 2nd hand props they where £100, usually a good reason for scrappage these days. If you find a replacement make sure it is torqued up properly, ie tightened with a torque wrench before the torque is reached, not 'checked'.
