explain to them slowly and clearly, with no tone of contempt or sarchasm that it contravines no law and has passed mots in that condition.

Im guessing youre a young'un. And theyd probably done you for wearing a back-to front basketball hat anyway man.
What a waste of time and our money.

its a cliche, but surely they really have got better things to do.

Some cops are just wankers. And sadly, especially traffic cops. I aim to change that when I join in a few years. I'm guessing that trafplods have always just wanted to pull people over and are the "tar everyone with the same brush" kind of people.

My step brother is a traffic/pursuit copper. And is surprisingly sound.
hes been pulled over driving my old mans car over the reg letter spacing (J V V) spaced to look like (J VV) by other traffic officers.
He just told them to fuck off and stop being cunts.
Showed his warrant card first like.
Amused me.

i dont think i'd get away with that though..

If its too loud they can stop you. The MOT actually states vehicle should fail if exhaust system is louder than when car left the facvtory. However this is testers discretion. I would however make sure its declared on your insurance otherwise they can do you.

???
Just about EVERY exhaust system in the world is louder than when it left the factory though isnt it? to some extent.
last chat i had with the MOT man he said as long as its complete, well attatched and no excessive corrosion, then its a pass.
though as you say, a lot of room for disgression i suppose?

what kind of exhaust setup do you have?

with a catalyst there is originally only a rear silencer, if you take that away it sounds like a v8 dragracer..
but without the catalyst there is a mid-silencer, if you take the rear silencer away it sounds sportyer but not like a v8 dragracer.

i had a japstyle rear silencer with the catalyst on my red 340, i welded a original 340 mid silencer just after the catalyst to get the noise to a normal level, maybe that is a suggestion.

And you wonder why you've been pulled!

As with anything, police use common sense, if you think you are taking the piss what are they likely to think

Doing deliveries in the 340, I'll do the speed limit over speed bumps (ie 30). The car takes a minor pounding but I've never known it to scrape on any of the underside as it's not lowered. Basically if it's not lowered, you shouldn't have any problem doing 30 over bumps. If it IS lowered, you'll have to slow down like everybody else. That's one of the downfalls of lowered cars.
