My understanding so far (which is limited to RHD cars and may be wrong) is that:
a) some 360s with Volvo B19/B200 (Volvo Redblock) power units had PAS fitted. So there would be no issues fitting PAS to a car with that sort of engine.
b) Every so often a B14 Volvo (aka Renault Cleon / C-Type) powered 340 turns up that has had an aftermarket conversion usually using the same PAS rack as the 360.
c) The B17/D16 Volvo engine (aka Renault Fonte / F-Type F1N,F2N,F3N) has issues with the sump/block getting in the way of things.
Anyone care to add any comments on the above? (or indeed to if the 1.7 issue exists for LHD cars?)
Whilst it hydraulic PAS might be out of the question, it may be possible to fit something else like electric PAS, but either way it's not looking like a bolt-on venture.
In practice and considering all the above, it probably better to man-up and keep it non-PAS.
