Non Volvo Econometer
Non Volvo Econometer
I just spotted this on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/52-mm-Econometer_ ... dZViewItem
It's a 52mm Econometer, and I was wondering if you could replace the face to look like a Volvo and fit it? It would seem a bargin at £1 + £2.50 p&p if you could considering what people want for Volvo ones.

Well spotted that man! Well, in theory I'd imagine it would be possible to adapt it to fit in the dash, either by cutting the plastic and making an adaptor for screwing it in place, or by removing the casing from the gauge to reduce it's size slightly, and get rid of the glass front. I don't however know if they are calibrated differently, but as a guage from a 340 works on a 360 etc and all the 300 engine variants, I can't see this being an issue, it would just read slightly differently at worst, if this was the case. Also nab a needle from a common fuel or temp gauge and you have the completed look, once you've made or acquired a fascia!

I've done some research and I'm not sure if these are still in production or not. I found this website which seems to be a local site by the manufacturers which has it, and all sorts of other guages. http://www.equus-intl.com/5534.htm#g745
Unfortunatly the international site didn't list it. External temp guage seems to be widely avaliable for about $30, so about £16, which seems very reasonable.

It's bossiple to fit it in the dash.

Ah good work that man! I personally like the orange needles, a quick swap from a fuel gauge or temp gauge would work, uniform scheme then! How hard was it to fit, any pictures of the inside?

Ah they're the pics, looks good! Pictures can paint a thousand words etc. Maybe getting hold of a fascia from a bust genuine 300 econ gauge, or making one up would be another step you could take, but that fascia has something about it, it nearly works as it is, but the colours are a bit too blocky and unbroken, unless you got a similar style gauge at the top the other side!
