Carb & wheels/tyres

Post by foggyjames » 17 Jan 2006 08:36 pm

For delivery to Ludlow (or other, by arrangement)...

1) Weber DIR32 carb for 340 B14. It's the pre-1986 model without the decelleration fuel cut-off switch, but all that means is that it'll use a little bit more petrol than a later carb. A cable to ground the switch (to enable it to idle) is provided. Top plate is missing a chunk (not a fundamental flaw), and both electrical connections need spade connectors soldering on before reliable use.

Having said all of this, it's covered 600 miles reliably on Nessy, and has been set for 2.5% CO on a professional gas tester. It is known to work, and doesn't have any problems with air leaks. Top plate gasket just replaced (was made of liquid gasket!). Ideal as a spare. £10.

2) 4 steel wheels and tyres. All have good tread (over 5mm IIRC), 175/70/13, or something like that (may not be 70 profile). I'd suggest getting them balanced. £20.

Help me get back a tiny slice of what I've spent on getting this car back on the road!

cheers

And all the perfectly good parts you pinched off Nessy while she was sat that I've had to replace... :P Both of these items have been replaced at significantly greater cost than what I'm selling the originals for, so I think it's fair enough :D

heya james

got some ques bout the carb...

thw weber only got two electrical connections... one for the throttle stop ( renix control unit shuts off solenoid idle valve during over run ie revs above 1700 and throttle closed ) and the other is the solenoid itself....

is the throttle switch missing on this carb? doesnt matter, just means overrun doesnt work.....

what carb you using on nessy now?

i cant make it to the meet but im interested in the carb anyway......
Enjoy your 300s

Hi Shimon,

My understanding is that only 86+ cars got the throttle stop switch. This carb is from an 84 car (originally...was swapped for Nessy's good 86+ carb by Hugh), and the switch can't be retro-fitted - the housing is completely different. You're quite right, it all still works, but the throttle switch wire needs grounding permanently (or you get no idle solenoid!), and there's no fuel saving device. It's barely noticable, and IMO a steal for a verified, 'known good', tuned carb.

I've now picked up another 86+ carb, which I have rebuilt (in a rudimentary kinda way), and is now on Nessy.

cheers

I could post the carb.

Two of those, two of the later plain black (behind full-face hubcaps) type. I think the full-face hubcaps fit on both styles. Having said that, I've been rolling around in Nessy with them not matching, and it doesn't look that bad! Four of the small hubcaps (to match the wheels you pictured) are included.

Why not come to Ludlow? If you can't make it, how about meeting me halfway - say Keele Services, M6 near Stoke? Let me know dude.

cheers

Hey Shimon,

Ah, fair enough. I'd rather sell the wheels in a set, and you'll never know they don't match once the hubcaps are on. If we're meeting up to swap wheels, we might as well hand the carb over. Yes, I'm in Derby, although away for about a week from Sunday.

To visit a Mr Dave Slater I bet! Derby is quite a nice round trip from there with some nice countryside - A46, A617, A38 to Derby, then A50 to Stoke, then M6 North.

Yeah, I'd like them sold as a batch really. Those are the black ones. They're ready for collection any time from tomorrow...but...I'll be away from Derby for a week or so from Sunday. They'll still be here, so I'm sure we could arrange for someone to be in if you wanted to pick them up.

cheers
