Hi. My '88 340GLE 1.7 failed its MOT on Friday. I'm thinking of buying Redline (what do you think?), and need to get rid of the one I have.
The sad thing is, it's not a bad car!
Rust-wise, it's got a couple of bubbles on the bodywork, but no holes. Until I took it for the MOT, the only hole I was aware of was at the front end under the bonnet (which I think might be a common place??). However, Mr MOT man had different ideas... I've got the fail certificate in the car, which has three notes on it for rust underneath, along with a couple of mentions of 'visible' smoke when the car is idling or at full power (which, personally, I think is partly due to the car standing for 8 months before I bought it, and partly them not giving the car any time to warm up).
I drove the car back to East Berkshire from West Wales, and the car improved steadily as I drove, but would need a tune. The items I mentioned to my garage were that the exhaust is blowing from somewhere towards the front of the car, at least one wheel bearing needs doing (pair of front bearings with car), and the wheels needed balancing.
Interior of the car is good - no tears that I can remember. The only thing missing from the car, as far as I'm aware, will be that I'll probably keep the parcel shelf, as it's in good nick & the one in Redline has speaker holes cut into it but, if I do buy Redline, the one from that car will be swapped into mine.
I didn't pay much for the car, and I'm not looking for much either - somewhere around the £60 mark. The sunroof works fine, it's got electric windows at the front but the passenger one has a dodgy connection & isn't working at the moment. All clocks are working correctly.
Anyone interested?
'88 1.7 340GLE for spares/welding!
I'll try to add some pics soon - visually, it's in better nick than some roadworthy cars I've seen! Based on the parts prices mentioned on here recently, it would be worth stripping, but that's not something I really have the time or space to do.
Did I mention it has a working, non-leaking sunroof?
The car managed a 230-mile trip when I bought it, and hadn't gone on a run for 8 months before that, so isn't all bad.

5 door. Dark metallic silver/grey. No alloys, but normal wheeltrims. Electric windows (passenger side not working at the moment), heated seats (not sure if working, been too hot recently!). Got spare & a jack, not sure of condition.
Will be keeping the wheel bearings for my new car, not likely to be keeping the parcel shelf. Might keep the spare if it has decent tread.
