Right, this is unfortunately going to the scrapyard soon, however, anyone who wants to come and strip any of its parts, just pm me or leave a reply here and we can arrange a time/date.

£600 does sound a bit steep . If you get the welding done by a welder (not an MOT garage) the rest are DIY items and you may get away with £300 in total . By the way is Fairford the airport if you do dismantle? To put it in context the garage charge for an astra cam belt is £250 !

My car failed its mot about a month ago and the mot man quoted me 600+ for the repairs and at the time i really considered the scrappy but i decided to try and do it my self and here i am a month later with a car almost ready for an mot and a bill of only 250 quid, so its worth trying to do it yourself the hardest thing for me was the welding but i asked around and got in touch with a really nice guy who did mine over a couple of weekends.

There's no harm in trying to fix your volvo and if at the end of the day you get no where you can always part out the car and get your money back, cause there are tons of parts on that car people would want.

I agree with Bazboy.

Some mechanics are a pain in the arse, especially when it comes to these little cars. The one that had a look at daughters car a while back was all doom and gloom, quoted over-inflated prices for repairs to get it's roadwothy certificate (similar to MOT?) and was just generally a turd. Some mechanics are like that when it comes to dealing with women. He picked the WRONG woman! lmao.

I'm never had anything to do with cars bodywork - fixing rust etc - until recently, in the last month I've tackled some pretty scary looking stuff. TOH is sorting the mechanical bits, so far the only thing I wouldn't have had a go at is the rear wheel bearing.

The car is coming along nicely and when it's all done and finished (roadworthy certificate will be got at another mechanic shop) I will go pay the doom and gloom turd a little visit to show him what a determined woman can do!
