I know, but I got the impression from Anjo that the preparation and polishing etc for re-chroming was quite exact and time consuming not to mention the expence! I did fully expect to have to get some re-chromed but when theo found these I thought I'd get them and see what they are like. I'm not expecting them to be perfect but they don't look too bad on the photos and they are of course origional

Please note that those chrome door handles will only fit on the 3-door models

Thats ok, they are for a 3 door! Thanks, I hadn't even thought about that though, all the early cars were 3 door fortunately for me! What's the difference, I've not had anything to do with 5 door door handles?

5 door door handles are smaller
Please note too, that the locks cilinders (what's that called in England??) are different between '76-'77 and later types! It's not possible to suit your current lock cilinders from the door handle into a '76-'77 door handle.

Thats important! Lucky that theo has the keys. Looks like I'll have a different key for each lock then! Thanks

Cylinders...you were very nearly right, and I think we all understood

As with most of our European friends, your English is far better than our Dutch/German/Flemish....
They changed the lock design again around 1984, right? The keys are certainly different, not sure about the lock diameter.
cheers
James

MY76/77 indeed has smaller lock cylinders, you can't fit later cylinders in them or vise versa. from MY78 and on they're the same size.
one-key system was introduced with modelyear 85 (both of these are reasons i'm getting a >MY85 set chromed).

Bear in mind that there are specialists who can make a key to fit a lock. So if another chromey set turns up, with cylinder but not key, hang on to them anyway ...
Cheers

Until a couple of years ago it was even possible to order a new key at the Volvo-dealer. For the old ones that isn't possible anymore, for the newer ones (MY '86 and on) it is still possible.
When you have the chassisnumber of the car, you could simply call the dealer and order the keys.
You need a very skilled lock smith to make a new key fit on an old lock... my lock smith (and he's even one of the award-winning ones of Holland) wasn't able to do the job (so unfortunately I have just one set of keys).

I know at least later ones have the lock number stamped on the back of the barrel.

these chrome ones do aswell. thats how i found the keys for them, i had to look through hundreds of 300 keys looking at the code on the key and matching it to the ones on the barrels.

Do you really have hundreds of keys?
In that case, I'll look up the codes of my keys if you want to sell any of your keys (which fit on my locks)
I don't have spares of my keys, so I've been looking for nearly 2 years now for some spare keys
