Shimon, I've taken the simple way out, and taken the runners off (I seem to remember having to drill out the bolt that holds it to the metal frame, can't remember why) then bolted the seat to a board by the two parralel metals, then bolted the bottom half of the swivel chair base to the board, after working out where the most stable position was. Ok, having read through that, photo coming up!

Thanks Carl...if you're sure you're not bothered. I could really use an new office chair, and this will be perfect. I even have a wrecked office chair base to use as a chassis.

I wasn't going to try knocking up a piece of metal work for something that I wasn't sure would fit under the desk

300 seats are a lot thicker than standard swivel bases, make sure it goes low! Mine is perfect position at bottom, but then I'm a short a*se

Nah, I aint bothered.

I was gonna try and make an office chair too, but probably makes sense for me to concentrate on fixing the car first
