I can't exactly remember the story, to be honest, but it was either joyriders or...er...gentlemen of no fixed abode...in search of scrap metal, if you know what I mean.

cheers

Hi guys, it's a fair cop, it was me wot dun it

Went up to look last night, couldn't resist as it was so close to me (had to pick the day the A1 was closed in both directions causing total gridlock in Doncaster!

I guessed that it was going to bit in a bit of a state from the photos. Well it's all there anyway, 66,000 miles on clock, trim intact, undamaged but dirty in and out. Body very bad in lots of places (inner wheel arches, lower front wings, front outriggers are all ashes to ashes, dust to dust, front valance...what front valance? :o :o :o ... but sills have been replaced and are still appear very solid :D , rear suspension mounts not too bad as far as I could see, front suspension mounts in need of some welding (some done already). Nose cone remarkably good, all lights, panels, boot lid, bonnet generally undamaged. Sunroof (tilted rain trap) U.S. All electrics, heater etc functioning, but water pump leaking. Rad ok. Both door skins are dead but door hinge pins are good and only slight drop on drivers side. Winsdscreen very bad scratch from wiper damage. Engine ran ok, didn't sound bad (oil very clean).
No real signs of trampdrifting or any modifications :D Looks like someone tried to do it up a bit (with silver hammerite :( )a good few years ago and lost interest (wheels were painted like that a good while ago). No log book or history.

I nearly walked away from it, but I'm afraid those big puppy eyes got me!

I would love to see it rescued from the edge of oblivion, but this one may be a 300 too far!!!

It really does need a major strip down and shot blasting, new wings, valance etc.

I'm still got a fair bit to do on my 340 (VFW), not done much this last month or so, so will have to get cracking on with it first, will post some pics of the 343 when I can (it really will have to be a long term project).

Still not really sure just how bad it's going to be, if it was a later car in the same condition I think it would be a no go, as they are still some great cars still out there (mostly owned by people on here!) and breaking for parts could be justified. But as we all know, when did you last see a Mk1 on the road? (last one I saw was mine in 2002, before that it must have been the mid 1990's).

Does anyone know if we can find out from the DVLA how many Mk 1's (or any model year for that matter) are still on the the road (or untaxed in peoples garages/gardens etc.) It could turn into a giant game of hunt the mark 1's! or we could try spotting them on google earth :o  :o

Winnar!

That doesn't sound too bad. Very unusual for a mk1 to rot out the front valance (unlike mk2/3s!), but I happen to know where there's a NOS mk1 front valance.

Do it. DO IT. DOOOO IIIIIIIT! :)

I would be very happy to help, if I possibly can. I've got a 164 and a 84 360 GLT to practice on first, but Foggyjames Resto Services might be able to come to the rescue in due course.

My twin of that car is reasonably MOT-able, so maybe we could arrange for the two to meet before too long?

cheers

That's great, thanks, I certainly intend to put it back on the road if at all poss. Your welcome to pop up anytime, hoping to get the car here soon. My old s reg went quite bad on the valance too.. but not this bad! I'm going to need advice on stuff like door skins, new wings, windscreen replacement etc. I have relatives in Sleaford are you anywhere near?

Luckily, those parts are all available.

Sleaford isn't right around the corner, but we're probably pretty much en-route for you.
