Breaking G reg 340 1.7 (not mine!!)

I've just been approached by by someone (i thinks it will be be stripping!) who's about to strip down a low mileage 1989/90 1.7 4 door 340 for banger racing, I think they then sell any parts they can and weigh in the car (what's left

) after the race.
I know that (to us), it's a waste of a nice solid, low mileage car but I have no control over it, apart from saving any parts I can.
I can't have any of the engine/transmission parts but all the trim, glass, bumpers, etc comes off.
I need a few parts for some of my cars (front windscreen for my Mk 1 for example, and something from the heater thats broken on my 340) etc. BUT I don't need everything and I certainly can't store it all!
Examples of what I don't need
Door cards for a 4 door (or in fact anything specific to a 4 door as I don't have one!)
All seats
Carpet
Most interior trim
Side windows (might keep the rear for a spare as it's going to be removed by a professional)
Probably all lights (I might keep the front indicators if they are better than mine or for spares)
I'm paying a nominal sum to get access to all the parts so I can get the front windscreen and a few other bits and bobs, and so I would like to sell what I can to get that money back but I'm not looking to make a profit and would rather people made use of the parts that I don't need than have them filling up my garage!
After the race there may be some other engine/transmission/suspension parts available but that depends on the damage sustained in the race

If the rad survives (which I don't think it will tbh) I'll buy it?
If he wants to sell that is :p

I don't think it will, but I'll see what happens! (pity I got rid of my old leaking one, could have swapped it for the race!)

Do try and save the rear window (and surrounding trim) if possible, I might buy it off you one day if you decide not to have it as a spare ...
Cheers

I'm hoping to get some bits off the car sunday (2moro). It's need to stay on for the race but if it survives I'll save it. Best thing is for me to see what I can come home with 2moro and then I'll put up a list of parts.

I was going to keep the rear lights as spares for my Mk3 as I don't have any spares and the headlights have very good reflectors that I was going to swap for mine. The reflectors on mine are actually not all that bad, just a bit less shiny (I'm just being fussy!).
I do have 3 other headlights (a pair with ok reflectors but they look a very slightly different colour!) and an odd one.
There is a rear passenger nearside light on ebay at the moment (2 days left to go no bids yet starting at £2 + £5 postage)!
I still need to get the rear lights off the breaking car and check them for condition.
If you want the ones off my car (which are ok, MOT passed recently) I could let you have them instead for £10 each. If you want the other pair (from my spares collection!) you can have them instead for £10 each and you could get them quicker.
Do you need front indicators?
Where abouts are you?
Thanks,
Andy

hmmm maybe ive got things wrong then. The 340 1.7 rears are different to the 1.4 rear lights? The cluster on ebay is a different layout to mine. i have the reverse light right next to the number plate. If thats the case i'll still take the front lights, assuming theyre the same (unlike the rears). i don't need indicators though. drivers sid front lense most important, as the previous owner used the wipers alot without the light wiper, nice gouge in the plastic now!
im in birmingham at the moment.
BTW my ovlov is a 1984 340 1.4, if thats of any use.

Ah, that's because they changed in 1985ish! (The later lights will fit your car if you get a pair). Fronts will be the same though. I'll swap the reflectors of over from mine when I get time if your not in too much of a hurry. By the way, the headlights are glass, not plastic so they are quite heavy. If it's just the glass lens you need, you could just swap that, they do come apart and you might be better doing that if your reflectors are good and postage might be cheaper. It would also be £5 just for the lens on it's own. If you do change both lights don't throw them away if the reflectors are good, either take them apart and keep them as spares or give the lights to someone who can take them apart! New reflectors used to be expensive (and probably not available now)
There might be a V300 event in Crich, Derbyshire, halfway between Doncaster and Birmingham in September, so if you are attending I could bring stuff to that. That goes for anyone else who needs any parts.

I'll see what happens but chances are they will get bent or something

I wasn't going to keep them so you can have them if I can get them off and they are ok. Not too far away in Doncaster so I'm sure we could meet half way?
