Tastee Redline

Post by mac » 08 Oct 2012 03:33 pm

This might just be "one of those cars"

I have been approached by a trader in Bournmouth who has taken in a Redline - recognising it as better than
average he would like enthusiasts to get first crack. (I have spoken at length with him and he is perfectly
realistic about values).

'F' Redline, one family car, (2 owners), garaged all it's life, dry stored off road for last 6 years, less than 5k
recorded miles.
No history has been found but condition suggests mileage may well be true.

Stuart would prefer to be contacted by e-mail stuartheasman@aol.co.uk but in extremis may be reached
on 07554 402230

Stuart would be happy to arrange to sell with a new MOT.

From the pix this would seem to be well worth some interest.

That appears in exceptional condition. Although not my cup of tea, I can appreciate any old car in time warp condition.

I second the view that hopefully it goes to the right owner. :D

Wow! What a find, I also hope this goes to a caring owner, as it's not everyday something like that becomes available! :D

Very nice! Can always appreciate a timewarp car. I'm sure these will still be turning up for a few years yet...

Thats lovely. Low milage and great condition, hope it goes to an enthusiast and kept well. Looks like it deserves it!

Goodness me, that looks lovely. Makes my love affair with the little Volvos come flooding back into my heart and mind. If only I had a garage or carport...

I am soooooo tempted by this, although the wife is not very amused at my plans for a pair of 340s! The vario is on a classic policy and adding another car would cost the princely sum of the £25 admin fee.

The seller is looking for £1k as it is or £1,200 with an MOT (apparently it needs some work on the brakes, not surprising since its been stood for 6 years).

My reservations are that 1. it's got no paperwork or history at all and only one key (I'm a bit anal about having two original keys) and 2. after being stood for so long, am I going to have a bag of trouble with perished seals/hoses etc?

What do you guys think?

Hi mike.
You should be able to get another key cut for about a fiver as there is know chips
or fancy bits in it.
Cheers Mark.

Wouldn't worry too much about seals and hoses, my 83 GLS (17000 when I got it in 2009) has been OK. Water pump did start dripping slightly this year after winter storage but fixed itself again again with a bit of use. My GL sat for 6 to 7 years and has been fine. Just watch out for the usual problems (petrol hoses etc. which go anyway) New owner should just look out for the stuff that goes wrong anyway as most age general age related problems won't be prevented with use...use just causes a whole lot of wear and tear problems on top!!! Just treat it with care and look it over for obvious stuff a bit more regularly and don't ignore anything. Of course throwing a time warp car into daily commute may present more problems than light use. Having said that, my GL has done a lot of towing work and 4000 miles a year with no extr problems.

BUT watch the TYRES. If original they will be lethal, probably the most important thing to check.

Or you could order one from Volvo for £8 - If you loose your key Volvo can get you one next day!

£1000 is not to bad if the milage is genuine.
