Early 343 spares Breaking

As title, i promised i would forward this information from a local breakers yard to my parents house. Looked after me with 300 parts for years, they are currently breaking a manual 343. Mk 1 i know lots of people are after parts from early cars at the moment.
Their prices are good and they can do mail order too.

From the photos there are quite a few oddities on this "Mk 1"
1. No headlight wipers
2. Different badging
3. number plate mounted on bumper
4. side indicator lights

...is this a 1979 model ??

This car is a perfect example of a 1980 model. It has revised badging, and revised wheels, which are the main give-aways compared to 1979 models. It hasn't got wrap-around bumpers, which means it's not an '81 model.

1980 models in the UK didn't have headlamp wipers as standard. In fact, they only appeared as standard from 1982, with the revised front.

John,
1)Headlight wipers were an optional item, the horizontally moving ones were terminated in 1978, the rotating version was introduced for 1979. The wipers were only delivered as standard with the "special" prior to 1981.
2)Is correct, the volvo script on the wing was introduced for MY80 when the older chromed badge was dropped.
3)The front number plate moved from under the front bumper to on the front bumper with the introduction of MY79.
4)Only for the MY79 did the side indicator lights have a chromed edge, as of MY80 the chromed edge was dropped in favour of the standard black edge as a cost saving measure.
5)The rims that are under the car were introduced for MY80, earlier versions had the closed rims.

I have looked at the pics and the remains look to be of MY80 as indicated.

Have just come back from the breakers where this car is. Note not the *car*.

Having rang them to check their Easter opening hours earlier in the week, and told by 2 people that they were open Good Friday 9-5, after a 150 mile journey there this morning, I can confirm quite categorically that they are not in fact open on Good Friday at all sm2

That's 7 hours, 300 miles and over £50 in fuel wasted. Not a happy boy!!

To be fair, they did seem very friendly on the telephone, just factually incorrect.

On the plus side, we discovered that an '89 240 can handle a 300 mile motorway journey with comfort and ease (if not economy). We passed a number of younger broken down cars, and felt a little smug.
