Just spotted an original R-Sport for sale in Latvia:
http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/detai ... =215837205

It's missing the front spoiler and the air box thingy but all the other details seem to be correct, the striping (side & bonnet), the Zender spoiler, the stickers on the wings and the boot lid ... That's quite a price though, and a long way to go ...

Cheers

Tom

Tis indeed, but I like high priced 300s.

Wow, very rare. Way off the mark with price when it looks that rough IMO.

I always thought R-sports looked like this

Did they make different spec R-sports or something?

Depends on the market ... The one for sale probably came from Germany.

It looks neglected yes, and the front valance looks like it needs to be cut out and replaced completely, but I think the pictures don't do it justice. The sills look sound from a distance, no major dents, the windscreen surround looks solid.

The car needs a major clean-up, but if it's been running all this time then it's very definitely saveable compared to a car found at the back of a damp shed. The price is way over the top, but top-of-the-range cars always go for a lot more then the next model down. If you look at the prices of a 205 GTI 1.9, a 405 MI16 or a Mk1 Golf GTI vs the "lesser" models then you know what I mean ...

Still, offers should begin at a quarter of the asking price I reckon ;-)

True, the price of 80's 'performance'(?) cars are definitely rising, but you can get a pretty damn good 205 GTi/Golf Gti etc for a fair bit less than that here in the UK - plus for most people they're more desirable and you might get your money back if you eventually sell it - even though this R-Sport is infinitely cooler :D

The front bumper and general front end looks a bit of a mess, it has the wrong rear bumper. Perhaps it's just a bit unloved, it's hard to tell from the photos what the rust situation is like (there's certainly plenty of surface rust under the engine bay, but obviously not crucial). Suppose it is at least original and mostly all there...!

I think you're right at the starting point - perhaps 1/3 of the asking. Anyway, the steering wheel's on the wrong side ;)

Well spotted Steve, I'd missed that :-)

Also, it should have had the R-Sport steering wheel too? Or was that an option?

That was an option on the German R-Sport cars:

More on this car over on the V3C NL forum:

Laurens says there are 5 (of 125) "known" German R-Sport cars left, 1 in Holland, 3 in Germany and this one in Latvia.
