1988 360GLT

Post by SteveP » 05 Nov 2005 07:52 pm

As you're all well aware, my black 360GLT's gearbox ate itself last week and I've since bought a 360GLT Saloon with the factory bodykit.

I may have someone interested in the whole car, there are a couple of sources for replacement gearboxes around the £50 mark. The complete car needs to go pretty sharpish, so if anyone's interested I'd take offers rather than stripping it and scrapping the actually very sound shell. It also has MOT til August 2006.

Well, I'm not actually so sure it would fit... the box casing is different as a 340 has a prop rather than the 360 torque tube

if the splines are the same size it might work anyways (bit dodgey though)

The box i believe is the same apart from the front torque tube mounting but you can swap that over, the box is made up of 3 parts, the torque tube/prop mount then the box, then the final drive at the back!! If its only the gearbox that broke you can swap that over. Or as hugh said if you wanted to use the final drive from the 1400 it would accelerate quicker!!!

Is the 1.4 final drive as strong as the 2.0 jobbie? If so I may be visiting the scrappie sometime soon...

I do actually reckon it is the final drive thats gone, whether its actually done any damage to the box itself who knows. Although putting it into gear 'feels' right in every gear, just does nothing when lifting the clutch.. not even any nasty grinding noises.

Not sure on that one mate, but the crown wheel unbolts and i cant see why that wouldnt fit onto the 60 diff and cant see why volvo would make it any weaker!!
For other reference i know the gearbox part is the same on a 740 turbo!! Dont know much about the diff gear ratios etc?
