I was quite tempted with this if it had not been the estate model and i would have stuck the 1.4 running gear into it when the turbo lump is in mine!!! Stick 400 wheels or early GLT wheels on it etc!!

I would go for the estate model! The normal model is still quite common over here...

I'd rather not have the estate too. That plus my B200... ;)

cheers

I would love a 66 but I would want to go overboard with the mods!! :D

Three stud alloys look funny dont they.As Adam said stick 300 running gear in it , but I'd go the 2ltr route again.

I do have 3 66's parked out side that are getting very rusty.

As you can see in my signature, I had one of those. A VOLVO 66 GLS.
I had to sell it because I had no time to restore it.
I kept the White Coupé because that is the car I married in.
Otherwise I would have kept the GLS and put a 1.4 engine in it.
The boot is HUGE and i think it looks really cool.

I'm sure a 2.0 will fit, but not after a LOT of modding. A 1.4 is quite a tight fit already.
I have a 1.4 in my white Coupé and it goes like crazy.
Wouter (Antiekeradio) has one too but he has the right carb and exhaust on it and that one is seriously fast.

I know a Renault 5 GT Turbo engine fits, that's a lot of power for such a light car.
With the Variomatic continuous gearbox you will have use of the huge torque and power from take-off all the way up to 200 Km/h and it WILL do 0-100km/h in 5-6 seconds!!!
That's supercar territory...

Just read the add, quite cheap and the 24000 M is possible.

The car in the add is the same as mine, only it is not the speciasl GLS version.
It lacks the Groovy orange paintjob and the funky orange interior.
It drives remarkably comfortable too.

I'm getting tempted to get a 72 Daf 66 (hopefully road-tax free here), then 'convert' it into a Volvo 66 (ie: rebadge).

cheers

In theory.. yes! But has anyone tried pushing the transmission to that extent? I have a feeling putting 5GT power through the drivebelts that you might run into trouble! Best bet Id've thought is to convert it to 340/360 running gear.

Why would you want to do that? The daf has a more classic look which I like.
The only Volvo-Daf I like is the Orange GLS Combi.
Not only the badges are different.
The interior changed aswell... albeit just a bit.

I know someone with 160 R5GTT RWHP in a Daf. That's about 200 BHP on the crank.

If he races with it he has to replace the belts (kevlar ones, €80 for a pair) after the race. They are completely worn and teared apart.
But for street use and some occasional sprints he's just fine.
The main problem is the low rev torque. High rev horsepower is no problem. The Variomatic will climb in revs very quickly and stay there untill the throttle is released.
And yes, he drove it up to 200Km/h. It is not something you would want to do in a Daf.

Converting it to 340 CVT Drivetrain is possible but it is almost exactly the same.

Wouter, correct me If I'm wrong...

It went to France. I sold it to a collector who was really fond of the GLS and payed good money for it, even though it was thourougly rotten. (I did tell him is was pretty bad)

Yes I am Sure. 8)

It was a GL Special.
The most expensive Volvo 66 ever.
The GLS can be recognised by the orange color, black trim and orange interior. The multispoke GLS rims also show it is a GLS.
Only 4001 were made and very few are left.
This is because Volvo tried a special anti rust treatment on the bottom of the car.
It did not really work out that well... :P
