Volvo 340DL for Sale

Post by Oliver Kinchin » 31 Jan 2006 06:58 pm

Good Day Everyone,

My beloved F Reg 340 has died with the cause being the lower seals. This car has recently had the following.
New Water Pump
3 New Tyres
New Starter Motor
New Head Gaskett
New Air Filter and Oil Filter

And a few others

This car was featured on this website in the Easter 2005 forum, where it spent an enjoyable day with the Volvo guys, there is a stunning picture of it with the lower statement saying: Oliver Kinchin's very Red Volvo.

The body is near immaculate for a car of its age, and it has been well maintained apart from the above problem.

I want this car to go to a good home and don't want it to be scapped.

I have had plenty of excellent memories in this car and would love to give it to someone who has the time and patience to give this car and excellent future.

Name your price. The car is situated in Birmingham city centre.

My Number is:07747793892 you can get me any time after 7.00.

If you would like to see more pictures please email me at oliverkinchin@yahoo.co.uk

I look forward to hearing from you all soon.

Not sure what you mean by lower seals but if you mean sills, They can be patched fairly cheaply. Try shopping around for a welder who is sensible and take it to another mot place . More details on the car would help if you are intent on selling eg colour, 4 doors ,mileage

Hi again Oliver, sorry to hear about the car, as Steve says, worth getting a second opinion and looking for someone to repair it. There's the pic from the MK meet! Seems a shame to get rid of it after you've had the other things done.

Sorry guys for not detailing information more clearly, was in a rush to get out of work.

Right, it is the sills that have gone not the seals (shows my knowledge)

Thanks for locating the photo on the page, at least now you can all see how it looks.

The car has done 137,000 miles has 4 doors and a heated driver seat (passenger seat stopped working)

As mentioned the car has had a lot of work done on the body e.g: front sill back joints and passenger door.

Unfortunately I have become a sinner and brought a Y reg Volvo S40 SE 1.8 so I need to get rid of this car ASAP. It is free for anyone from Volvo300 Mania as I know it will go to a good home.

Regards,

Oliver

Well we'll let you off as half a sinner! It's still Volvo but it's FWD. Anyway, joking aside, it's a very kind offer you've made to V3M members, so I hope someone has the car, gets it repaired, (shimon340) has shown how cheaply you could probably get it repaired for. You'd have one cheap, but well looked after car then.

On further investigation and a word to my Dad I feel there might have been some confusion on our Seals. The problem is not the Sills but the lower cylinder seals in the actual engine. What is the head gaskett was renewed but the lower 'seals' had but dislodged in the process meaning while I was driving back the water shot through the lower seals and the oil shot out.

Sorry to have confused anyone with this information. Basically as mentioned the cars body and interior is stunning, but it needs a new engine.

Thank you all for your patience with me.

Regards,

Oliver

Well in 300 terms, that makes life even easier for a new buyer! A rust free 300 is harder to find, the engines are normally fine. That confused me a bit actually, I thought why should the sills be rotten if the rest of the car is so clean and tidy! So, I'm sure someone can find a good engine easily enough, or it could be a good shell for an engine upgrade.

if those seals are disturbed then they need to be replaced. I believe this involves removing the head again, the crankshaft and the pistons in their liners. Not an impossible task but not one Ive had to do myself.
Enjoy your 300s

As mentioned it does need the head removed, pistons and crank shaft. As you say it is not an impossibe task but one that take a lot of time and patience I believe. Did I mention the car does come with the original brochure and full service until 111,000 miles. All receipts of work done and MOT also come with the car. As previously mentioned it is a perfact car for anyone who wants to upgrade the engine. I remember when going to the Easter meeting that a few volvo's there could have done with some new body parts. By the way, the car also comes with the original Dog Gaurd, so anyone who had a dog this is the ideal car (when a new engine has been fitted of course).
