I shall hold these in my gasket bank so when they go "unavailable" we have masters to reproduce from.
Hi mac,

just to say that the following are still available. I'm picking up

Front cover to case (340/60 M45R/M47R) 1340989
Top cover (M47R) 1340991
Case to 5th.gear housing (M47R) 1340992
5th.gear housing to diff. (M47R) 1340993

from the dealers' tomorrow. They seem to be common with gaskets on 200/700 gearboxes too, so with a bit of luck, they'll be available for a while yet ...

Cheers

Thanks for that Tom - while we can still get them we will - if they eventually go NLA then at least I have a reference stock.

On enquiry today SMW volvo told me the gearbox-5thgear-diff gaskets are 'expired', but on entering the codes above came up as available one in Sweden and the other direct from supplier (so no stock held by volvo).

Could be on limited time on these, do we have all the specs? The thickness and hardness is very important.

My understanding is that Mac's gaskets are already made to accurate OE specs...which he fortunately had access to.

cheers

The last time I enquired with him when buying the diff cover gasket kit, he didn't do the others. Have I missed something in the thread?

Sorry, I mis-read what you said...you're absolutely right. The diff cover plate gasket is OE-spec. The others he doesn't do (yet?!), as last time I checked they were available (unlike the one for the diff cover). I was under the impression that they're the same as for a regular M45/6/7, but I must confess that I haven't checked.

cheers

am i right in guessing that these diff gaskets are in demand due to people dismantling and welding the diff up?
im planning to dismantle my diff to do that exact thing so should probably find out how i can get hold of a diff gasket

More in demand due to garages (when 300's were common on the roads) being tools and jacking the car on the diff. That was enough to bend the casing and put the cover plate out of straight so lots of them were leaking horrifically.

The drifting thing has been much more recent.

It seems preposterous to jack the car with the diff when there's a perfectly solid de Dion axle right next to it. Conversely, you can jack my manta up by the diff all day, it even has extra material on the underside.
