not at all , I never take you guys seriously anyway ,
you all drive 300's for a start ( only joking )
lets get this into perspective,
the golf thing started accidentally as a purely profit making venture ,
they are fun , easy to work on , parts are readily available and cheap( compare the listings on Ebay for parts for golfs against 300's) but most importantly if you pick the right car are easy to sell for a respectable profit ,
skys blue 1.6 was bought for £300.00 , all I did was valet it , replace 1 door strip and the mirror adjuster knobs , it sold for £525.00 within a week ,even allowing for the parts thats £215.00 profit for about an hours work.
The GTI cost me £170.00 + £100.00 in parts and materials to put right,
I know sky bought and it was worth nearer £800.00 but I still got £600.00 ( he is my son after all )for it , £330.00 profit for a total of about 6 hours work .
the auto cost me £210..00 even including the mot it and other work it only stands me at £340.00 and is now a nice daily driver mot'd for a year and is worth £650 .00 of any ones money.so thats another £310.00 potential profit.
the new ones cost me £150.00 but has Hella crystal rear lights ( worth £40.00 ), crystal crosshair fronts (£45.00 ), gti interior (at least £50.00 )and P slot alloys (again at least £50..00 ) so I am already in profit ,
lets be honest unfortunately that is not something you can easily say about the 300 ( apart from the fun aspect ).
I love the 300 series which is why I am still on this forum .
but for pure profit making purposes ,most of them ( with some very special exceptions ) are worth more for there parts than they are as a complete car.
its just a sad fact of life ,but to the general public the 300 is still perceived as an old farts car ( a category you lot include me in anyway ) which is gradually changing
But to the general public the golf is and always has been a functional every day driver with the reputation of reliability and build quality that all VW's have.
The Golf GTI 's (MK1 and MK2 ) is still widely regarded as the best hot hatch ever made

The fact that young people like them to "tune" helps for money making too!redline wrote:sven360 wrote:redline wrote:I'll get your coats .Bit tetchy this evening Mr Red
