Bodykit GROUP BUY!

Post by foggyjames » 27 Nov 2004 08:42 pm

Now, there's been a lot of talk about people wanting bodykits...mainly abroad. I've been talking to Dave Slater (DBS Motorsport) who does a fair bit of glassfibre moulding, and he's potentially offering to do a run.

At first, we're talking front valance only, but if that goes ok, we could take it from there. £80 is the asking price for a front valance. We need 5 confirmed orders with deposits for this to happen.

Just to remind you what this baby looks like....

I will co-ordinate overseas shipping, but bear in mind that this will be horrifically expensive!

Let me know!

cheers

James

Oh yeah...I forgot to mention...the reason I'm going for this is that I just can't see myself being able to make copies before I fit my kit....ie: its never going to be done! If this goes head I'll try to wrangle a set of moulds (for the pieces I don't have spares of), and maybe I can go into production (including of some alternative styles?!) at a later date...

cheers

I'm sure Dave's got all the legal stuff like order forms under control, so if you place an order with him, you've made a contract...and if he fails to come good on it, you've got legal leverage. Not that it'll come to that ;)

Postal insurance...I think you have to prepare yourself for the thing *potentially* turning up in need of some minor repair, as fibreglass is not the strongest of materials, and transporting something that fragile and that large for hundreds of miles is very difficult. Maybe Dave can comment better on this? I'll ask him. The best thing would be for you to plan a visit to the UK Easter '05 meet-up ;)

cheers

I'm the same with Geez... but this may cause a problem if Foggy wants to get his kit fitted sooner rather than later (I know I would), but I reckon I'd just have to...

We're not planning to go ahead until then...but it can't go ahead until the deposits are in anyway. But hey, your name is down....
....I make that three (I know someone else wants one, but hasn't posted yet)...we're almost there.

And that person beat me to replying....
...I know guys, its an expensive time of year (haha....understatement of the century...)

I probably won't be getting the kit done til early-Easter at this rate, so that's probably OK. I'm looking to do the carbs before then though. Alternatively, Dave could take a moulding in advance, then duplicate from there, freeing my kit up...

cheers

This probably sounds really stupid, but what exactly would the front valance consist of and how would it be fixed in place? I wish I'd studied JOHN360's a bit more closely the other week really! I know that this fits onto the metal part, but as my metal valance is rotten, it will definitely need replacing before the next MOT if they're as hot on it as I think they'll be! So maybe in the process of replacing that I'll add the bodykit valance! I read JOHN360's thread about requiring a replacement for the metal front valance, if you're reading this John, did you ever get one and get it fitted? I know Uba said £58 or so plus VAT, which I could stretch too, was this about right for yours? Pete

Do we potentially have our 5?! Myself and Dave were talking in terms of only making 5 kits, otherwise it looses all pretiege.

In answer to your question Pete... There's a fair chance the front valance might cover up a multitude of sins. On the other hand, I'd get it replaced before fitting the kit. Are you sure it can't simply be repaired, rather than replaced?!

Entirely the reason I really have to persuade myself to get one regardless of the cost at this time of year! :D

You don't want everyone with the kit...

Regarding fixing, from memory it fits into a couple of holes just in front of the rad (bumper off) & then the bottom front screw of wings & one under the front of the wing, below where the bumper wraps round. I don't think it touchs the rusty bits of the valance thankfully !!!

To answer the other question, I didn't chase up the valance as that was for my red GLT, although the black one isn't too brilliant though !!

Cheers,

John.
