340 GL 1.4 sadly for sale

Post by pete-d » 15 Nov 2008 06:42 pm

Hi there folks,

Sadly I'm offering my 340 for sale. I bought it about 6 months ago - there are pics here

The car's now just done 60,000 and has been a great reliable daily runner.

I did a full oil, filters and plugs change when I bought it but it's probably due for a service and a fettle now. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with it but like all older cars regular TLC is a good thing.

The MOT is until June 2009 and there's tax until the end of December.

I'm only looking to sell because I have bad rheumatism in my left ankle which means I need an automatic - especially in the colder, damp weather. I've had this problem for years but it's gradually getting worse and seems to be affecting me particularly badly this year.

I want to see the car going to someone who will look after it as it's in nice condition. I really will be sad to see it go but there's no point keeping it if I can't drive it!

I think I paid £350 for it when I bought it and its condition hasn't changed in that time so I'd be looking for offers in that general area.

If you want to know more, PM or ask in this thread.

Pete

Always liked that car, that is a very tempting price as well... sorry to hear you have to sell it. How about that nice red CVT 340 for sale though? ;)

08/09/98 40614 miles Pilling Volvo
[There appears to be missing history at this point at the change over from one service record book to the next - the mileage gap is less than 6,000 between the two books though]
11/09/01 45634 miles Pilling Volvo
11/09/02 46643 miles Pilling Volvo
11/09/03 47324 miles Pilling Volvo

13/09/05 48272 miles Pilling Volvo
12/09/06 48715 miles Pilling Volvo
28/01/08 52289 miles Owner (no service record but changed tailgate struts and fan belt)
19/04/08 53900 miles Owner (no service record but changed spark plugs)
06/08/08 56127 miles Me - changed air filter, oil filter and oil.

I suspect there has been some undocumented home servicing in recent years as everything looked clean, tidy and well looked after when I bought it.

The car has never let me down, starting first time even on cold and damp Yorkshire mornings. It's currently doing 200 to 300 miles most weeks and is happy in town traffic, up and down hills and doing 70mph on the motorway.

The only negative I can think of is it seems a bit slow to warm up - probably could use a new thermostat.

MOT expires 16/07/09

Yes, so far it's still for sale.

I've had a bit of interest so it'll be a case of first come, first served.

Feel free to PM me.

If it sells, I'll post on here as soon as I can. So far, there's no-one interested in looking at it before the weekend.

This vehicle is provisionally sold. I've agreed a price with a forum member here subject to him coming to look at it at the weekend.

I'll keep you updated.

Thanks for your interest.

Thanks Ben,

I'm just glad it's gone to someone who is going to use it and enjoy it.

There's a few things I'd have done to it if I was keeping it - like fitting a new thermostat and doing something with the few small patches where rust is beginning to bubble (e.g. corner of front valance) but it's done an honourable and reliable 300 miles a week for me without batting an eyelid.

As I said, I only sold because I need an auto for this cold, damp weather. I pick up a 2 owner 26,000 miles 460 turbo auto tomorrow - I hope it's as honest as the 340 you've gained.

Good luck with it.

Pete
