For sale is my 1991 340 1.4 GL Catalyser model in smoke silver.

Price - £80
Location – Orpington, Kent (inside the M25)

MoT runs out on 24th September and tax 30th September, hence the price. Mileage is 62,500 approx. The only history I have is the most recent MoT and some tax discs. It had new oil and oil filter about 4 months ago. Spark plugs, air filter and the dreaded distributor cap and rotor were done last November (about 4000 miles ago).

Needless to say it's not perfect, main bad points are:

-sometimes there’s a slight hesitation under acceleration which is a bit annoying but it still drives fine. It was running very rough when I bought it last year but I spent some time (quite a lot in fact) tuning and fettling the carb whilst referring to the very useful posts on this forum :)
-off-side quarter panel and rear arch has some nasty damage/rust from a previous owner, looks like the result of an argument with an immovable object of some kind! And some other rust along the front valence (a small area of frilliness) and one patch on the leading edge of the bonnet (just visible in the first photo).
-front passenger door only opens from the inside.
-rear off-side door central locking is intermittent i.e. some days it’s fine, other days it needs 3 attempts to lock all the doors.
-radiator grille isn’t fixed properly at the bottom (see gaffer tape in the photos).
-boot lock barrel has worked loose but it still functions.

Good points are:
-it appears solid underneath.
-there’s plenty of tread on the tyres.
-the interior is in generally good condition. The electric front windows and door mirrors all work, but I can’t vouch for the electric seats.
-despite the faults it’s proved to be a reliable, dependable old beast

Will be sad to see it go but needs must (funds required for an impending house move). Please PM me if you have any questions or would like to arrange a viewing.

Thanks
Rob

My god , dude seriously this is a proper bargain you'd get more than £60 for it in scrap, not that i'm suggesting you scrap it!

I have no space, but have the money, come on guys, as VND says distance really shouldn't be an issue if you have the room for it, even with the price of a train ticket you'll still be getting a MEGA BARGAIN!!!

After posting it on Gumtree yesterday I had loads of email replies, mostly from gimps it has to be said (don't expect to get a mint 340 for this sort of money  ), but a bloke who breaks Volvos has offered me £60 if I don't sell so I'll probably go with that this week if no one is interested. Naturally I'd prefer it if it stayed on the road though. And I'm not saying that as a "O come on save it" jibe as TBH I wouldn't pay much more myself as it's essentially got no T&T.

If I paid for the car, could somebody store it? As you may know, I cant drive due to poor eye-sight, but I would be happy to pay for it to stop it from being scrapped. I also have room to store it, but can't get it here, so if somebody closer can collect and store the car or wants to drive it to Cardiff, I will pay for it and keep it till a new owner can be found.

Ian.

I'd buy it too but I can't store it :( Do you want to try breaking it for spares? I reckon you'd make more than £60. I'll give you £10 for the rear doors if you want? :D

I'm afraid I haven't got the time to break it, I need it gone quickly and without fuss. I've potentially got two people coming to see it today so I'm hoping it'll be bought whole and kept on the road. Will update the thread later, cheers.
