Hi John,

Sorry to hear you've been messed about! But glad to see you offering it here... I'm pretty sure someone would take it, that's a good price IMO for a very tidy looking Mk1! Best of luck!

If no-one wants it now, I am tempted to bum around in it for a bit while I wait for my blue 343 to come back, then sell it on*. Better get my Oettinger / R-Sport front spoiler painted ;) Oh, and the 13" R-Sport wheels...

* For a HUGE profit. Or not...

I think I know someone who will want it soon-ish, so I'm not too worried about having to make a trip to the south coast just yet!

cheers

Wow - thanks for your kind comments everyone - I'm so pleased this car's future is looking bright! It does need some work, but let's face it, these cars are basic and most things can be fixed by a competent mechanic. Suffice to say, that's not me! Don't worry Foggy - the advice wasn't from you, but a friend who has an amazingly successful eBay art business, buying and selling the stuff and making astonishing profits along the way!

Foggy, I would be very happy to sell the car to you and, judging by your collection, you're the perfect candidate. The one thing I would say is you might not want to drive it back to Lincoln in it's current state, as a clamp holding a spark plug in place probably isn't strictly roadworthy. If you had a replacement cylinder head that you could bring with you, then you're more than welcome to fit it here - we've got plenty of space and a large array of tools that you can use. A new exhaust may be a good idea, too, ideally!

Annoyingly, I sent in the tax for a refund when I bought the 360, but the good news is that a year's road tax is a (sort of) bargain £125 per year - I'm about to tax the GLT and it will cost a whopping £205! I'm happy to tax it prior to your arrival, but I'm afraid I won't be able to fund it ;-) On the plus side, it sailed through the last MoT and there were no advisories whatsoever, so once it's taxed and the obvious faults are fixed, the car will be 100% once again. It'll be great to think that a mk.1 could be saved and after the woeful scrappage scheme where something like 300,000 perfectly usable old cars were needlessly junked, every old car needs to be saved, IMO.

Thanks again guys for your help.

John.

Hi John.
I am so glad this car did not go to one of drifters. sm2

Hi Mark, I'm pleased too - I have a feeling the guy who bought it on eBay was from that world. He didn't seem to be an enthusiast at all and was just a complete bozo, as far as I could tell. I'm sure they're not all bozos, of course! This car deserves better, though. ;-)

Cheers,

John.

So here goes the vague plan...unless someone comes forward now, I'll buy the car and have something fun to run around while my blue mk1 is on its way back from the resto man. I'll then sell it on when I get my 343 back in action and/or a suitable buyer comes forward. I suspect it'll either be going to Speedy, or to Newc'astle...or possibly into storage for an as-yet unnamed party ;)

Does that sound agreeable to everyone? If so, we should probably get a plan together, John. I'm quite busy over the next few weeks, but I have a couple of ideas...

cheers

Glad a plan is coming together, if I didn't already have 4 (including one of foggy's old ones for parts   ). I'd buy it. If it had been a 3 door I would have said I'd have it and sell the one I'd already got which is far far from roadworthy or the condition of this 4 door. Any more old volvos and I think I'll be looking at severe matrimonial strife

All things are possible, chaps :)

I'm considering picking it up and (on the way back) taking it to the T5D5 trackday instead of the V70R sm56 sm56 sm56

I'm not too worried about the spark plug situation. My 240 had something similar, and it was easily rectified. I'll have a chat with you about that in due course.

Ok Foggy - that sounds great to me. If you're 100% ok with buying it, then I won't ask for any sort of deposit. I'm delighted it's going to a good home, actually. It'll be interesting to see which part of the country it finally ends up! It sounds like vnd is gearing up for it, eventually. The life and times of a 345!

Oh and there's no particular hurry to pick it up - as long as we're talking weeks, rather than months. ;-)

Many thanks.

Well so far Speedy, VND and Chris have all expressed an interest, so I'm confident that *someone* will want it, come the time...and I suspect that there'll be a clear candidate. If not...I'll have to speak very nicely to John about storage! :)

I might need the paint code reading...I've got a front spoiler to paint ;)

cheers
