Latest news from north Kor... ehm Finland I mean.

Post by jtbo » 09 Jul 2009 09:22 am

So, there came new law, practically behind from a tree, there was no any news or announcements made prior to this.

From 1.7 all video material uploaded to the interenet must be approved by Elokuvatarkastamo (movie inspection bureau of Finland), there is single payment of 800 euros per title and additional 2 euros per minute of video.

Sure, there are some exceptions, which make situation not quite so bad, but this is again one more attempt to silence people and those exceptions are now easy to remove when there is handy law to prevent any unwanted material to be uploaded to the internet.

Do you know Star Wreck, free movie made by few film making enthusiasts? This law is almost like crafted against such movies, they are making now Iron Sky, but I don't know if they can release it because of costs now. Finnish movie studios got probably scared of what hobby movies can be today and they did order this law from government which acted like a puppet once again.

So, what about my Youtube videos? Probably there will be time when they are sending me huge bill if they will make law bit more restrictive in future, which they will for sure.

In last 10-15 years, our laws have changed a lot to direction which makes Finland closer to old east Germany or north Korea than land of democracy.

It is also bit different in UK where there are some silly laws too, but there practise is different, here laws are same as practise, it is guaranteed that one will face consequences if not following law.

Russia has some control over press but so it seems to be here too, there are some things that are not told until afterwards, nobody is just saying that there is some control, it is really weird.

They have pretty much taken down all means we could use to make revolution in name of safety and finns in general are quite lazy, they mumble for sure, but when it comes to actions there is nothing. French are much better in this aspect, remember when it was high petrol prices year ago or so? In France they did block harbours, jammed motorways, in Finland there was minor petition which was naturally declined as lowering taxes would go into pocket of those oil countries. I wonder if in France petrol is cheaper than in here?

In last 2 or so years there has been issued many laws which would been good reason for revolution, but doing revolution alone is considered bit foolish

I don't know, but it won't be long until they ban cars older than 2001 or so if these things keep happening.

Seems to be a really hard law to comply to. If a finnish film is uploaded in for instance the UK, what are they going to do? Send a bill to the UK?

Surely they can't keep on eye every uploaded video, even we do have that indeed checks material at internet.

It is just a law which makes it easy to gain strict control when people in power like to do so.

It was pushed trough in name of protecting children

But where it does cause considerable effect it in videos like Star Wreck, when they put out their next video they should pay that checking price, I believe that biggest finnish film studios are making sure that they must pay, that is quite bad, imo.

Trust me, it is very real law as is Lex Karpela, law which makes certain pens illegal as they can be used to disable copy protection from music cd, that was law which music industry demanded, it forbits person to own any device or tools which allow him to disable copy protection and you can disable copy protection of certain music cd's with permanent marker pen.

I don't know if any english media has written from this.

Mass civil disobedience would overwhelm any attempt to control uploads - people should just carry on as before and see the government in court. I doubt such legislation would stand up if your judiciary have any teeth at all. Also, vote for the Pirate Party - do you have that in Finland too?

Crikey, that seems harsh. Here the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) rates movies/games etc, and the price they charge is huge!
