As i pulled in my drive there was a Mk4 Golf opposite and they had the door card off. When i parked up and locked the car i turned round to find a guy walking up the drive.
He said would i be interested in another Volvo, which just so happens to be the one i spotted above and have known about for ages it seems.

Well i said price depndant and i'd have to look at it first but i was interested. He said he'd like above £100 but less than £200. Right now here is the thing he said it's 2owners from new with 45000 miles, all MOT's for sure and possibly service history aswell. But he said he stopped using it because a sensor went on it. I suggested the flywhhel sensor, he said no something under the dash, any ideas?

Lastly i've just done a vehicle check on it knowing it has been sat for ages, it turns out it hasn't been taxed since 1st April 1999, so thats ten years of non use

Is it going to be a whole can of worms, how do you reckon it would have faired rust wise, and the brakes etc will surely need attension. Is it worth it, i think the guy would rather it went back on the road than was broken up. He also said he had a one owner from new 480es with 50000 miles on it which he also wants to move on, anyone interested i got his number.

well most recent known sale was the one I just bought of Chris_C man.
100ish-k, short tax and test, recently LOADS of work done with 5 good tyres and a couple of spares for 350.
If its sat that long, id say try and near a hundred. Less than 150 and youve scored I recon.

as long as its not rotted through.

Thats what i was thinking i pretty much said i'd give him a ton and he said more like £150, but it all depends on the condition underneath, plus convincing my parents they do want another Volvo shaped car on their already straining driveway

I'd be pretty sceptical... £100 tops, else it's just not worth the effort. There's a real minty looking one for £690 on Autotrader, and I can't imagine one you've fixed up the brakes, given it a good service with all fluids, got it running and up to roadworthy condition there'd be much difference in price

However, if the shells a minter... ignore all the above  But if it were me I'd really want it near perfect in body condition before starting with the rest!

Well i guess the best bet is to go and check it out next weekend and see how it looks. My 340 is fairly solid so were should i be looking for rot, i know rear chassis rails, but anywhere else more specific?

Chassis rails (front and back 'corners'), rear of sills tend to go first, jacking points, rear arches (check bazboy's thread), front valance, rear valance, boot floor, inner front wings blah blah

Check the inner wings by looking at the top section under the bonnet, before it steps out horizontal. Then go up and down the sills, checking the rear jacking points, and where the box section of the sill meets the rear arches. Poke in the rear arches there, if the seam at the bottom of the sill is good, and no hole in the arch, and no florets on the inner wings, it's pretty damn good. If you can see surface rust, the inside is a lot worse.
