What would you like to see?

Post by jtbo » 30 Jan 2005 12:56 am

I have been building my video page today and now I'm interest to hear if there should be more backgrounds and stories or just links to video files without too much talking? :)

Under construction in here http://www.janiervast.com/videot/

Also I have little problem, MPlayer (not M$ media player) is unable to take frame capture from 640x480 vid, but smaller it takes ok, I have now no idea what is wrong, maybe someone has been there already with this problem?

I put rest videos on that page after I have got little sleep, only finger working now, brain is already on sleep ;)

I think I got page pretty much ready now. I dropped bigger files out, because my upload speed is not enough, it would take hours and hours to get 360MB clip

I'd guess the computer is maxing out - large resolution capturing is pretty demanding.

Any videos are good by me :)

cheers

Thanks from your comments :)

My computer:
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
512Mt 400Mhz DDR
Radeon 9700
200Gt HD space on 2 physical discs

And I try just take one JPG shot from video file. Maybe it is bug or something :(
But it is no problem anymore as I dropped those big resolution versions :)

I think that I have made little error when I captured those clips from tape, I used 25fps while standard may be 24fps, I need check this.
This other problem is that car seems to move slower on computer screen than in camera.

BTW, whole day on track is around 50 euros in here and I have around 45km to Motopark track.
What prices are track days where you live?

I know Castlecoombe, Donington, Brandshatch, Croft, Newbury , Rockingham, Oulton Park and Silverstone from UK, also Zandvoort and Osterbleich(Spelling?) from NL, I have driven in all of those in simulation, but not in real :(

I like Croft in UK most but Zandvoort is best in NL of course home track is always best :)

Those tracks are available to sim called Netkar, but sim is going to be commercial product when it is finished.
beta is still available and free at http://www.nkzone.com/Default.asp

If you test that sim, remember to warmup your tires properly ;)

Rockingham and Donnington Park are fairly near me :)

It doesn't look like the PC's power will be the problem with that spec. The frame rate thing might well be a problem. If you're capturing from PAL, 24 fps is indeed the standard. Which capture card are you using - is it built into the 9700? TV cards (what I have) usually don't ever capture properly - you need a dedicated video editing style capture card.

When capturing video I use Firewire, I'm all digital ;)

Software is Adobe Premiere, I don't like it but only one I have.

When capturing jpg I choose file save image and it saves paused image from videoclip.

I try to capture in 24fps, maybe it makes car go correct speed :)

Ah right...I'm not too familiar with Firewire stuff, but I remember watching a friend having to 'capture' data - why on earth didn't they make digital video cameras save their files in a PC-friendly format like a digital camera does?!

Compressing video requires lot of cpu power and without compressing file size would be huge, I think those are reasons why we don't have good dv-cams that make pc-friendly formats, there is few but image quality is shit in those.

I did make now 24fps capture, I think that it is more like it should but if I play 24fps and 25fps clip side by side I can't tell the difference.

But I had little different settings while compressing, filesize is also down from 19MB to 16MB.

I just recently turned switch to correct position, previous owner had reversed position, dunno why, but it feels quite loose, imo.

Okay your prize is that I tell you top speed on Motopark track that I got last summer ..... 145km/h 'sm9' There was some serious power loss back then, now it runs much better and soon I install that fuel injection so maybe even 150km/h next summer ;)

Long straight is around 1km long and entry speed to the straight is around 70km/h
