Got another Volvo... (OT)

This time it's for the wife, to replace the Seat Toledo. Too many small things failing at the same time, and enough rust to make it impractical to fix it when the next MOT testing time comes. It's a car that's not owned for enjoying it, it's just another piece of (rusty) steel to take her from home to work and back (60 km times two per day, five days a week) so... for tax reasons it's got to be another diesel. And I'm certainly not planning to give up on my 340 anytime soon.

So, the replacement is another Dutch-built Volvo. No, not a 340... It's a 1998 S40 1.9TD with about 315000 km on the clock.

That was quick Yes, there's a white 360GL parked in the same parking lot and its rear end can be seen in that third picture.

I dont mind those S40's. I had one for about 4 months back in the UK. Fairly uninspiring to drive and to look at, but then again it was a base-spec white 1.6 ex-repmobile.
That TD is a very good choice though, and those T4 alloys help.

That is how Finland is during summer, many apartment blocks are designed like that, however some in big towns are worse, but many apartment blocks reside near small forests and such.

It is indeed pretty nice looking area there

Our tarmac is very rough, almost impossible to walk with bare foot, so it eats tires and makes bad noise

Forgot to mention, mum has v40 diesel, power management brain unit failed in car which made headlights stay on all time and lot of other weird stuff, unit did cost 1000 euros at Volvo. However that was ph1 car and I don't think that failure is all too common. There are also rust in weird places, where nothing should hit or even touch, door window frame etc, weird car she tries to get rid of it, but I believe nomead's car is better

Yeah I live in one of the 4-story houses, but the exact house where I live isn't visible in any of the pictures.

Oh, and about the rust - yes we have some. The car just seems extra shiny in those pictures, so it is hidden well. But strangely, it's mostly in the usual places like wheel arches, lower edge of the bonnet under the mask, etc. And there seem to be a lot of places where the paint has just chipped off but the metal hasn't rusted yet. Weird. I'll have to do a complete run-through of all exposed surfaces before the winter, and go through the bodywork rust protection just in case there are some dodgy bits.

There's also a coolant leak somewhere, but haven't found the exact spot yet.
But that's all folks, let's return to our regular programming. (mine is experiencing some starting related problems, trying to find out what's wrong but it's something electrical / starter motor related...)
