A mint V66 in Heiloo

The V300 - a dying breed even in Holland. The only one I saw on the roads - a 340 DL Special Vario, and very rusty ...

Better than wheelie bins

The cheese is good too ...

well it must be pedal powered, because i cant see room for an engine!trabitom99 wrote:No idea! They're half the size of a Trabant and use the cycle lanes.
Holland is great, but your neck of the woods isn't so bad eitherFiggy wrote:WOW! That place looks like an excellent holiday destination!
We lived near an old people's home. Maybe that's why there were so many of them?nvdw wrote:The little red car is called a Canta, and it's designed for disabled people.
That's a coincidence, I'll check it outnvdw wrote:That serpenta green Volvo 66 GL has come up quite a few times at some DAF meets. It's nicknamed 'Sukke'; go out and look for it at http://www.siteje.com
Cars in Dutch streets are so much more interesting than those in Germany. Here, 99% of all cars are silver, black or dark blue. Anything else and people are worried about resale value. 99% of all Volvos are estates, S4/7/90s, 850 / 700 / 900 saloons are very rare. Any car with a bit of superficial rust is deemed a hazard for pedestrians and either fixed or scrapped at the next MOT. Any classic is safely locked away in a garage.Jos360 wrote:Holland is quite nice for spotting older cars. Especcially the 25-year-no-tax rule helps keeping classics on the road.

One of three I spotted on the first day! Also, an NSU Ro80, several 1970's Beamers, and half a dozen W123 Mercs, some of which were so run down even a Somali taxi driver would have given them the thumbs-down ...SteveP wrote:EDIT: and the DS!
we think wearing a helmet on a bike is stupid lookingtrabitom99 wrote:What else is great about Holland besides, cars, bins and old Gouda:
* health and safety - or lack of it. No cyclist or moped rider wears a helmet.
* hagelslag - nothing to do with the red light district, tasty chocolate sprinkles for your breakfast
* coffee. Particularly the complementary cup in the supermarkets.
What's not so good:
* supposedly there is a 120 kph speed limit, all I ever saw was 100 kph or 90 kph in building sites. Drives you mad!
* dutch bikes "omafiets" - they have their fans in Germany too, but they're heavy, many have no gears or front brakes (why, with no hills?) and the "sit up and beg" sitting position makes your bum ache after 5 mins.
