Insurance advice please

Post by blue72 » 04 Oct 2009 07:35 pm

Hi, can anyone advise me on where to try for insurance on my 1989 340DL. My renewal from CIS is quite astounding at £200.00 (that includes breakdown cover though) for fully comp cover. I don't really need fully comp cover but it seems near the same for some reason for tpf&t. Is there anyone who knows of a sensible company that will insure a car thats probally only worth £200.00 anyway. Good forum, am loving some of the photo's. Thanks in advance..........Shaun. 340pw

£200 for fully comp with break-down cover is excelent. I wish I could pay so little for mine.. I am slightly different though as I have to insure my cars for any driver, as I am blind and never know who will be driving me about from day to day. Still my Viva only has one driver who is 66 and that is still over £200 a year.

TBH mate mine is £230 FC and I'm 25 with a 360 2.0 on 3k a yr! I dont think £200+/- is a bad price.

Normally if you're over 25 its just as cheaper if not cheaper to insure a car FC as you are seen to be more grown up and want to look after it rather than fishing for a basic premium to keep costs down. Thats my experience with other cars too...

The value of your car is matterless.
You're insuring yourself against what may be do unto others.

Less than £4/week sounds OK to me.
I spend more than that on tabs everyday :(

£200 for FC sounds ok, I've got a GLS with a classic company for just over £100 FC, but it is limited to 3000 miles a year (not sure how they know how many you do? M.O.T. maybe?) The car is 83 (26 years old) not sure how you'd get on with an 89 car. Will find out soon though, I'm hoping to try them with my 89 GL in a few weeks! Let us know how you get on.

Yiou can get a classic policy on any car over 20 years old. They will also cover collectors cars that are newer than that.

27 y/o £218 TPFT on a 1984 360 GLS, 6K p/a for me. I think it's a classic policy, but would have to check. Although I am getting NCB also :?

OP, surely you will be lucky to better £200 FC on any car with any insurer! I'm covered by Allianz btw, incase you want to try them out.

Hi mate.
You want to try and get insurance in N.Ireland. We have the lowest car crime per head of pop in the UK,Yet we still pay
more than everyone else.Go for your 200 quote and feel kucky.

32 years old.
Third party fire (which is likely ) , and theft with 5000miles limited (only matters if you make a claim and youve done more than that) and big 'garagedliars on to try and keep the rate down and I still pay £400.
I think youre doing well man.
If your on as classic policy, 2nd car, it might drop a TINY bit.
But I wouldnt complain too much man.
Theyll probably put your premium up.

200 quid isn't bad, it's cheap.

I paid an addition £30 to add my 1982 Volvo 343 auto onto my classic car policy which already had a 1972 DAF 44 and a 1986 Reliant Rialto. Unlimited mileage, fully comp, etc. (Original premium was £102, so £132 for 3 cars all-in CA postcode)

I have to stump up €500 here with full N.C.D. on a 1978 Citroen GS fully comp, regular car policy (only way to get unlimited mileage). Count yourself lucky.

If you are over 50 try SAGA, I am, just  and was quite supprised and will be going with them in November unless Hastings Direct can match it, witch I doubt.
Can't remember the exact figure but it was around £150 fully comp with cover for driving to the Post Office & Bank etc. for the school I work at.

I once had a "baby blue" vauxhall chevette 3 door hatchi, I insured it at an address in essex cos it were far cheaper when i was 21, 22 years old, and i was driving the car in belfast, The cops eventually stopped me and give me a producer!, i went to the cop station and showed them my insurance they said "oh its cheaper if you insure it like that isnt it", with a kind of raised eyebrow look, then had to let me go, because i was still driving in the U K, and as such completely legal, lol,

This thread just confirms what i already knew, insurance is a complete lottery, ya pay the £'s and hope and for the best, its a legal requirement after all!.

wish i'd thought of starting an insurance firm 10 years ago!!!!!!,money 4 naffin!
