Mk2 340 eBay breaker pics

Post by OapEM » 29 Nov 2009 08:54 pm

As mentioned by Ben in the other post, on Saturday FJ, Ron, Gav and myself visited the scrapyard to see what it had to offer.
Here's a few pics I took...

This thing was hanging. Pretty obvious to see why it's ended up there!

Ben, here's one of the lights he wanted to charge top dollar for! The guy was a w@nker.

Yeah. I think a few people have described him as such before.
Bit of a let down eh?

Never mind.
Keep the peepers peeled for the next one.

Wasn't all bad. Like I say, I got the dials. Kick in the balls that they're VDO though lol.
Got two front handle bits (that you close door with) as interior is same as mine. Got the ashtray after I dropped my disklok on mine   Washer jets - needed :D Maybe a couple of other odds n sods from it like aerial etc too.

John bagged the EW kit, prop, bonnet , possibly something else large lol.

I reckon it will be getting bailed on Monday now. There's nowt left on it really. Tailgate, N/S/R light, that's about it.

I bagged the O/S/R light for buttons and will try and remove the reverse lense from it to fit in my unit. *gulp*

Definitley a wanker though as you say mate. Ripping tw@t. Otherwise I would have had the parcel shelf as a spare.

I would have been PISSED if I had bought that pair of lights via the bay.

Should have said you needed one man (or wanted a spare lol) you will find the steering wheel in the N/S/R footwell I do believe.

I need to do some net research to see if there's anything about that may help disolve glue on light clusters to aid disassembly. :?:

Sticky Stuff Remover (tm)
is said to destroy all known glues.

Certainly killed all glues ive tried it on.
Not sure how youd apply it in there though. :?:

Good shout on that stuff dude. is the container large? I plan to Dremmel away as much of the cluster as I can to get access to the reverse lense and then bath it in something lol.

Ah, if youre destroying the rest of the cluster should be easy enough.
Container as in SSR volume?
Think its in 500 ml or 1 litres.

More than enough to bathe from the inside.

Think Ive got some knocking round, butits cheap like.

May as well destroy it, the inside is smashed on the corner and as can be seen, the indi is toast. It had to be the side I/we need!
I wonder if has happened when they stuffed the car in the pile, as they were whole in the eBay ad?

Its a mid-distance shot on the Ebay pic, so youd be doing well to see the break on the bottom edge from that I recon.

Just compared it with the above pic I took of the cluster on the car. Seems to be intact on the ebay pic. The damaged area is fairly large and goes quite high up, so I reckon it would be visible.

Monkeys!

Bit rusty eh...

What is it with scrapyard guys and wanting to charge top dollar that most likely wont sell anyway.... since people are hardly running 300's as daily drivers like they were say 10years ago. Atleast it proved useful for a few things, and scrappy pics are always interesting

I dunno, I've been to a couple of good scappies that've let me have stuff for a few pounds. I've been to a fair few though so that's a 20% success rate

for removing the lense, try putting it in the oven for a while on a slow low heat. it'll heat the glue up and you should be able to pull the piece apart :)

Scrappys can charge what the hell they like, which is a problem, the local one to me, will give you £40 a car regardless. hence i stoped going there and now travel 30 miles to weigh in and get double my money instantly!
