New to the site & Volvos!

Post by Badger » 31 Dec 2009 02:26 am

Hey, just thought I would introduce myself.
I've just bought myself a 1986 360 GLT as a cheap run-around and for a bit of fun and I am loving it. Picked it up for £250 off pistonheads and have been having a bit of skidding fun :D

The car is in pretty good condition appart from a few patches of rust and a few other bits and bobs. But its nice to drive and very comfy (even with a welded diff haha)

Just joined up to the site to get some advice and gather information on volvos as I know almost nothing about them.

Just a quick question, My speedo doesnt work at all. I have heard this could be a common problem. Any advice on how to fix it?
I am also looking for a GLT spoiler as mine doesnt have one and a passenger side front indicator thingy as mine is broken. If anyone has either, let me know. (I will make a thread in the wanted section also)

Thanks,

Tim

Welcome aboard the good ship V3M, the home of pipes, slippers and welded diffs

First things first, we like pictures, pictures are good lets see the 360.

The speedo is cable driven so it's either snapped or undone itself from the back of the dials. It's pretty easy to check, at the top of the dials in the reccess is a few philips head screws holding a bar which in turn keeps the dials in place. Undo them tilt the whole cluster forward in place and you can then see if it's still conected. Note: you may need to remove the steering wheel for better access, see how you get on. If it is i'd guess you've got a snapped cable or something has gone awry at the hub end.

I'm sure one of the hoarders on here will have what your looking for in exchange for beer tokens.

Its in a bit of a state atm but should be good with a bit of TLC.

Also, where do I go about getting a badgeless grille?

Welcome to the site mate.
Looks like a cool car to me man.
Debadge your own grille the pikey way by unclipping the Volvo slash and dremeling the mounts off. Quick paint and it'll look well enough.
Think Adam (340glt) has a method for building super pimp versions, but you'd have to ask him how the wizardry works.
