360 Daily driver Project

Post by crazycat » 12 Jun 2010 06:26 pm

Some of you might have seen my other thread (Buy or not), in which i posted a white 360 saloon for sale and asked for advices on wether to buy it or not

Finally bought it for €250, no TÜV, needs welding. you might think 250 is alot for that, but 360s are rather rare in germany. interieur is in nice condition and engine is running really good.

So currently working to get the car on the street, already ripped off the fenders as they were not usable anymore

sills looking really bad

i wonder why they put new brake pads on worn out discs

sills and brakes are the first things im going to fix, aswell as getting new fenders and some welding on the wheel arch too

a hole in the wheel arch
Image
and one in the battery box too as expected
Image

both werent visible at first but some toothpicking with a screwdriver helped exposing :D

still need to find out shipping costs from england/holland to germany whenever i need some spares... local scrap yards have absolutely no parts for 300s :( but there are a few on ebay.

oh yeah and what i found in the trunk has some really nice profile, but i guess i'll need another one to have some fun with it

I guess it's the original 1985 spare tire :D

Guess you now have a new member, going to keep you updated! ;)

Very well bought!

Look like a nice car, even with the rust.
And I bet youre the only person you know who owns one.

Rareness = cool. 8)

I dont mind shipping parts over if you get stuck.
Just drop me a pm.

Welcome to 300 ownership. 340pw

I dread rust, but hopefully what you've got there hasn't gone too far and will be a fairly easy fix for you.

How fricking cool is that spare tyre, i've never seen one of those before, like ever, cool beans 8) :D

the rust seemed little at first, but what you see in the pictures is most of it. one of the holes in the sill was 'fixed' by the previous owner by glueing a piece of metal on it with body filler sm2

just bought some used fenders on ebay, 2 new oem brake discs and a taillight. i guess someone pushed a shopping cart or something into the back of the car, the trunk has some dents and the taillight was broken but easy fix

will soon need some new shocks/springs, front shocks are noisy and rear is extremely squashy

Okay, here's a summary of all the defects i've discovered that need to be fixed

Welding
Battery box, wheel arch&cavity
2 holes in left sill
1 small hole in right sill

Replacement
Brake discs
Both front wings
Taillight

Fix dents on the trunk

Windscreen has a crack and corrosion on the a-pillar

Steering lock isn't working at all and I'm afraid it might lock during driving, figuring out how to fix it

There's a good message tho, car has TÜV (== MOT) until august 2011, previous owner confused it with Abgasuntersuchung which expired April 2010.

Right now thinking about painting it flat black.

Reason is that when i removed the rust on the rear door i wasnt very happy with the outcome.

Sure looks okay in the pictures but the closer you look at it the worse it looks.

Also, i'll have to paint 2 complete fenders and alot of the trunk, too.

Does anyone have pics of flat black 300s, favourably sedans?
What's the cheapest and most lasting way of doing it? (rather long-lasting than cheap)

Did you treat the inside of the door? That's where the rust comes from on the bottom of the doors.

There is always a lot more rust on these 300's than the eye can see, so start ripping out the interior and the carpets if you want to do it properly. My 360 looks really good, but I dread the day I take it to a friend of mine for a thorough inspection and makeover...

Then give the car a good sanding, and roll it flat black with a good quality paint... It is not the way you apply the paint (spray or roll) that makes it last, it is the amount of attention you spend on the preparation and the quality of the products you use on it.
