Sometimes things are not going too well, today is one of those days for me.

My boss has failed to get enough work to employ me, estimate is that situation might improve next year, but that is yet bit unknown.

Mice things ate all of insulation below from my bathroom and today I found out that cold feeling in livingroom corner was because water had entered to wall some time in history, after taking out surface material I did found out that wood in wall was very brittle and insulation used was such type that disappears during time by itself, also there is some kind of fungus or such which from I don't know if it is dead or not, but anyway dust caused lungs to be on fire.

Things don't look too well now, so I think it is bad karma for now.

Sounds like you need a damp proof course there mate.
Don't fret,things will always get better.
When the great floods hit the UK in 2007,we in N.I got hit first.
It was the strangest thing wading around my front living room up to my knees in shitty water.
It took many months to sort out.
By the way, do you still need those strut tops as i will be taking them of my dead GLT next week.

Yeah, strut tops would be really appreciated as I try to build 360 to roadworthy and bit better condition now as can't really afford driving diesel because of taxes and as I have not much of income. I have earmarked some of the money for those parts that I needed, so that should not be a problem at all and car really needs those so that I could make it trough mot.

Reason for damp problem in my wall is that previous owners of the house have done some changes to windows and walls, they have put urethane insulation into walls (really bad choice), so their changes made wall not breathable, there were actually two non breathable walls where water has been condensing and that has caused the issues together with leaking windows, which have been replaced since, but walls were not fixed in that point.

I can break wooden planks easily with my bare hands, those are so fragile, rotten wood.

So I will need to fix bathroom, livingroom, 360 and who knows what else before winter comes and we already get cold nights of +1C of temperature

Sounds bad dude, but like everyone says, things will pick up again.
My company employs 2500 and because of government funding being withdrawn, theyre cutting 50% from the wage budget.

Seems to be tough all over.

A few ventalation holes in the walls should help out a bit (smaller than a mouse ideally!)

Things have gone downwards for 1.5 years, who knows how long it still continues, but sometime things should look better too at least based on statistics

Maybe holes in walls are ok in UK, but we have bit more serious winter here





There are several layers in walls, sawdust and urethane insulation, wood planks and top of that surface material, oh and there is some water vapour sealing paper too.

edit: Have to open of course floors too as it looks like that water has come from window and run under floor, might have happened when old windows were on place, years before I bought this house, previous owners have just put new windows and closed whole place out of sight.

That sounds like all the mistakes with the insulation were made.. Urethane and water vapor sealing paper, that's two vapor seals which is always bad.. Urethane should not be used as inside insulation also. It works with outside insulation.

Membership is free and you get a lot of services. There's a section where you can ask building related questions and your question is answered by a professionals. They tend to reccomend the certain brands of building materials though (of course those which sponsor the service) but when you have some media reading skills, it's a good service. There's a database for all old questions and a good search. There's also a forum and lot's of other building related stuff like cross sections of different build methods, like insulation types, foundation types etc...

I've solved most of my building related problems through that site.

Fuse, it was like this, urethane, sawdust, urethane, wood planks, paper with plastic, that is 3 vapor seals and also leaking window frame I found out, which has feed water into problem area. There has been really lot of mistakes made, now I don't know much from building, but I know that you put better sealing closer to inside and every layer towards outside must pass water vapor more easily trough it, also every layer should be less insulation, so one can't have more insulation outside that inside, also every layer should be able to pass trough water vapor, there should be no 100% seal, even modern books so claim, might work with ventilation machines, but old style of breathing walls is much more healthier and problem free.

rintamamiestalo.fi is also great source, especially with traditional methods that has been working 50 or more years without problems

Plastic is perhaps good for toys, but you never ever should put plastic to walls, not even latex paint, that is same as putting plastic on walls, that causes problems, so every material, even glue for surface paper, must be chosen so that it does not make plastic like non breathable surface.

Most problems did came when old were 'improved' with new non breathable materials, which was sold as energy saving etc, but there were no increased ventilation with air condition machines, so water vapor had no where to go, it ended up inside the walls and caused lot of problems, reason why we have now laws like how many times in 24 hours whole amount of inside air must be changed etc. So modern way to build things is wrong and works only with some machines and it is supported and now even enforced by law, so it is difficult to build houses that would last really long and would be healthy to live.

Anyway talked with our personnel representative and got to know that next year there would be new 2 year long project and I am planned into head of that project, so I have to move into other side of country for two years, kind of nice really, I can have break from house and collect some treasury for big house rebuild, which is always nice

So modern way to build things is wrong and works only with some machines and it is supported and now even enforced by law, so it is difficult to build houses that would last really long and would be healthy to live.

Since the government started giving out cheap loans for house insulation people have been getting really silly with cladding their homes with 20cm thick polystyrene over here. It makes an old house look pretty god-awful, and causes all sorts of problems with damp if it's not properly done - I'm steering well clear of it ...

Hope that's not dry rot, it can spread through materials like brick to reach other timbers. Hope you get it sorted out ok.

Had to sell yank thank to fund quick repair for that place, well buyer is still thinking about it, but anyway I hope that it will go.

I still don't know when I have to move to new place for that work project, but I hope that I could put everything in such state that I could even sell the house and move on, but it is unlikely that I can manage to do that, but it is very unlikely that I will live in this house after the 2 years job trip ends, because house needs big amount of work and location is quite bad, so I will look something else then, however there will be quite few of issues remaining to get that done.

I'm afraid that 240 have to go too in this process, but that will be seen some time in future.

Indeed and it is quite low mileage with diesel motor that has done only 60 000 miles, so it is really a shame, but as I have to move out and sell house for someone who is interested in repairing it, have to clear all the stuff there is, of course as I move to city there is only very little storage space so that becomes a problem.

Welding machine had a bad day, it did sputter whole day, also twice wire got stuck into nozzle, once so badly that had to drill it out.

Also found more soft areas from 360 and I should be driving at thursday already, not happening I'm afraid, but I might be able to weld french crap for that time, so maybe I have to change plans still. Also french crap would be better when moving out, but I don't have space for 360, so I probably have to finish 360 before winter while driving with french crap, then get mot for 360 and sell french crap and borrow some car to make the move out, you see I can have only one car really where I'm moving, even I don't know where I'm moving yet

I'm losing something like 10-15 000 money in here, but it can't be helped, life is what it is, sometimes it is rather unpleasant, sometimes lot better

Thanks, hopefully I will recover from angry flu by then, bicycling 10km in a flu is not really a fun thing to do, but when it rains hard and temperature is under +10C it starts to be rather annoying, but I was happy that there were no strong wind from direction where I was going
