The most common subject of discussions, weather

Post by jtbo » 10 Oct 2010 02:41 pm

I guess we don't have such topic here, don't know if we need one, but as we live different places it might be nice to know who stole our sun?

Currently we have here +4C, autumn storm moves everything on yard that is not bolted tight, at morning I did saw some snow coming from sky, however it did not stay on ground many seconds.

During the week most nights entered to negative temperature zone, week before all nights had temps below zero, -4C quite often.

Trees have no leafs, except in one or two trees where from wind blows them onto my lawn, actually lawn is quite yellow now because of leafs and I should take them out from lawn and pile them under the tree or two, but currently my schedule does not permit this task, so I guess snow covers them before I can move them.

Last moments to lubricate locks of car so that one can enter to car at winter time too and still get doors to stay closed when needed.

Rather cloudy, but there has been few holes in cloud cover and sun has shown itself couple of times. Autumn is starting to transform into winter.

So I woke up early (not quite so, almost 9am) morning and drive to meet boss as there was problem with computer that needed to be fixed.

Along the way I spotted farmers going to work on fields:

No snow here @ Helsinki-Vantaa area yet. It poured some sleet at the night before but no snow.

Car windows are frozen at the mornings though so I had to dig out the Calix interior heater from the cellar.

-6.5C this morning, starts to feel winter again, luckily during the day weather eases up a bit, but it is only going to be matter of time when winter starts to be winner of this battle.

I woke up early at the morning and pulled curtain away from front of window, then I had to rub my eyes and take another look as nothing was looking like it was last evening.

I then stumbled outside and took a broom, also took this pic from bit changed scenery, snow was hitting bottom of french crap when I drove to shop.

There are foot marks of cat also, that creature pretty much ignores snow and water or pretty much everything else, when it goes patrolling it goes and nothing is stopping it.

Of course two kittens then follow it around.

+7 C here at the moment, we've had a couple of ground frosts here at night so far that's all, a heat wave by comparison 8). Much as I love it when we get lots of snow (hardly ever) like the last winter, I'm not sure if I could cope with such long winters, although all the RWD fun on snow covered roads would be some compensation!

Has been snowy here too, for weeks now, -16C today, rather chilly without gloves really.

~20cm of snow on yard, made quite nice walls of snow last week and more is promised for this week.

Weekend forecast promises about -20C, I'm bit worried as I'm still missing winter coat, have only one rather thin which is meant for autumn use only.

Can't even remember when it was last time that there was positive temperatures. Not so long ago really, my memory just is crap.

Here is small graph, which is missing bit of data, but anyway gives some idea, it is one year of time:

Forecast is now reporting -23C for monday-tuesday night and I'm already feeling like freezing, it usually is some 20 degrees colder at coldest days of winter what it is at end of month, which would be then -43C for january-february, hopefully not
