standard WHEEL stud length/diameter? extended studs?
standard WHEEL stud length/diameter? extended studs?
Does anyone know what the standard stud length is on a '88 340? Can't measure them too easily with them still on the car, and need to know wether the extended replacements will be long enough:)
While I'm here... If anyone knows any longer studs that are a direct fit, I'd be most impressed!! Current plan is to get impreza ones and drill the stud holes out to 14mm to fit them. They're available in 65mm.

Re: standard stud length? extended studs?
Dear Deardrie, I'm a stud but when I get changed in front if the other studs, they all seem to be a bit bigger than me?
Am I normal?
What should the standard stud length be?

Re: standard stud length? extended studs?
Dear Concerned of Newcastle,
The jury is still out on standard stud length, but if it's long enough to get a bolt onto, you don't need to worry about wether yours is a few mm shorter or longer than your friends. Another common worry is width but alas I have no knowledge of the norm here. Can anyone help with the standard width (at the splined base) of our studs? Width would be far more important if it's to be a snug fit the hole without reaming or drilling.
Deardrie.

Re: standard stud length? extended studs?
You know, it's taken me 3 posts to actually figure out that we were talking WHEEL STUDS and not manifold or any other stud for that matter.
So you want the overall length of the stud, the length of the splined section, and the length of the threaded portion.
Grayston Engineering (They won't flog direct, but if you happen to be on their doorstep you can sometimes blag your way in. I managed to get a set of wheel nuts and washers there for a set of Wolfrace slots I had on a Maxi. Otherwise, they'll advise you of a local supplier of their goods.)

Re: standard stud length? extended studs?
My apologies.. Yes, WHEEL studs. Stupid thing to leave out. Thanks for the link, it has the spline diameter of lots of studs on there, it'll be useful.
Probably the most important thing will be the diameter of the splined end, so I can see what other studs will fit in the standard stud holes.. And the length too, but the more I think about it the more I realize that will be (rooooooughly) measureable without taking them out:)

Aren't the splines a common size amongst manufacturers?
Normally just pitch and length you need to know.
It would seem to make sense so may not be the case

You'd hope so but it's not the case.. For example Ford are 13.4mm (iirc) and nissan / subaru are 14.1mm.. But yeah, it would make sooo much sense if these things were standardized!

Hi mate standard overall stud length is 43.5mm. You won't find a direct replacment in a longer length. Get from grayston 12x1.25 thread diameter with the 14.3mm spline diameter. Drill hub to 14mm and use a machined tube and nut to pull them through.

Re: standard WHEEL stud length/diameter? extended studs?
Was so desperately hoping to find something standard to prevent the drilling but nevermind.. Could be worse eh.
Interestingly enough grayston list subaru/nissan as 14.4mm and the ebay sellers I found say 14.1.. Not really that interesting now I think about it.
Anyways: Thanks:)
