I had to give a friend a lift into Nottingham to take her year-old iMac back to the Apple shop (yes...you heard....no courier collection...) because it broke....one of a faulty batch apparantly. On top of that, she had to pay a £50 service charge which will be refunded when the store have got the funds cleared from Apple HQ.

I'll stick with a Dell PC, thanks...

cheers

what about regular irc?

Post by baz » 09 Sep 2007 07:07 am

would take 2 minutes to set up a channel on one of the smaller networks i say smaller networks as ircnet, efnet etc are that large its getting harder to connect to them
I've been running an mp3 server on newnet the past 3 years and never had a problem connecting i'd be happy to register it with chanserv etc if others feel it would be useful costs nothing so may be worth a try like others here im not into using aim msn etc and newnet can be accessed without a chat client by going direct to the newnet site

I do have chat on my forum, http://www.janiervast.com/yabbse/index.php?action=chat It seem to be empty most of time, but one need to register for it.

Don't know if it would be possible to put that client on web page, works about 40000 times better than that xs4all web chat thing, slow as h**l, that is what you get if trying to do ircnet via webchat, it does not work at all...

There is also #landianlfsfriikit at ircnet that was founded by few of finnish volvo enthusiast that like to play LFS every now and then, I was of course one of them.

I recommend Miranda IM if your are going IRCNET route, has MSN and IRC, very light program. Making new room is really simple as you just put # to front of room name and then make room V3M or whatver you prefer. That might be easiest way, I would say.

IRC server that you connect you need to check from your ISP

EDIT: Look here http://www.everywherechat.com/addachat.html I think that should be way to implement it as it really works fast from many connections, I have had lot of mobile connections and only that has worked trough all of them ;)

re irc channel

Post by baz » 09 Sep 2007 12:15 pm

ok gone ahead and built a channel irc.newnet.net #bloody-volvo-drivers named after the latest volvo ads on the radio urging us to become bloody volvo drivers agreed on xsforall it doesnt work that well at all ircnet is getting harder every day to access servers full mainly set this channel up with chanserv installed so the channel is open 24/7 if it is suitable i can set ops to forum members so topics etc can be changed etc and time permitting could even set my dcc server up so files can be requested too if its wanted due to time differences i may not be at keyboard but feel free to pm with suggestions as to whats most needed on the channel

Chat window = "shoutbox"...one of the Admin guys could just enable that and we'd be off and running. :D
