Volvo 360 GLT valuation

Post by 98maclg » 18 Apr 2023 11:17 am

Hello chaps,

I was hoping you might be able to give me a rough steer on value for a 360 GLT. It's a well maintained 41,000 mile four-door example, great mechanically and with an immaculate interior. Despite being garaged its suffering some rust issues, notably the bottoms of all four doors and an area of rot at the top of one of the rear wheel wells around an old rubber grommet. It's otherwise very presentable but not perfect - there are a number of small parking dings and the plastic mounting plates behind the door handles seem to be deteriorating.

Could you give me a rough idea on value as it stands? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello, the GLT is most sought after one. Is it original? The low mileage is a good thing. The wide-wheel boys will gladly ruin it for you in no time so best to aim for a high price. I had a 1.7 3-door that was quite badly rusted underneath in places (but good on top) restored and the welding came to about £5k about 6 years ago, and that was for a £500 car! The main things are the sills, the rear box sections and the front valance which isn't obtainable new. If they're reasonably good, the main worries are over and hopefully someone will pay about £3k or more for it. The most expensive one I heard of was a 1.7 which had done about 20 miles from new before the elderley owner crashed it and immediately gave up driving but stored the car for 30 years or something. That one went at auction for about £8k around 10 years ago with significant damage on one side at the front.

Hope this helps a bit. Cheers, Jon.C.

I'd say anything from 1500-3000, hard to say without further photos but the prices are really determined by the body condition. 360's are tough mechanically but bodywork is expensive to rectify. However, the low mileage might help matters. Also I'd say pre-85 cars are possibly slightly more desirable/rarer.

Hi both,
Thanks for the responses, really appreciate it. I was buying rather than selling so pleased to say the car is now mine. Couldn’t be more pleased, it runs like a sewing machine and the interior is immaculate - it has the original foot well trays that have been protected by carpet since new. The clutch is a little juddery, but we’ll see how it is after been run for a few weeks.

Unfortunately I didn’t realise the ULEZ was expanding so soon, so it may be that I have to move the car on at the end of the summer, but I’m looking forward to thrumming around in it until then. I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets under my skin!

The clutch thing was a common issue, especially on a car that sits around for a bit. Mine tends to do it if left for long periods of time, but if used regularly is no problem. Congrats on the purchase, sounds like a nice example! Shame about the ULEZ, you'll have to try find an older one :D
