lock barrel

Post by Vart » 03 Aug 2005 02:32 pm

afternoon all,

how does one remove the lock barrel, haynes is quite vague or what it says doesn't work. hitting the square bit in the middle doesn't do anything and i can't find a lock pin in either mechanism to remove.

do you need the original keys to do this operation, i can get it but it's a hassle.

any help appreciated

I'm guessing you mean the door lock barrel? If this is the case, if you flip the handle over and put it in front of you upside down but in the same orientation as it was on the car. Look at where the square shaft is on the back of the barrel, the black plastic part that locks the door rotates, if you rotate it so the end is in the middle not more up or more down, then there is a small pin that now goes vertically through the end of the lock barrel, by moving that plastic part you should now be able to see it?
I hope you can understand that, because i'm not sure if i can!!!??? sm14

theres a hole that a pin will go through to tother side on the end, nothing in it, wasn't when i took it out either.

there was nothing in the other lock too.

the key still makes it work.

sm14 Hmmm the barrel SHOULD pull out then!! Unless the metal spring retainer has been bonded onto the end of the barrel!! Then you will have some fun!!!

the bit of metal on the very end moves a bit, hitting the square just doesn't move it at all.

the key doesn't have to be in the lock to get the barrel out does it?

not wortrh giving it a go with wd40?

I would try the key in the barrel but i'm pretty sure you dont need it!! If you can get the metal part off the barrel, then do so as it might loosen the barrel up!
