Hello everyone!

Post by 340customizer » 14 Feb 2004 12:08 pm

hello volvo 300 maniaks
I'am Andries Hofstra from Holland.
And i live in the Northen city of Assen.
And i have to say that you guys have a great site.
keep up the good work.:)
The site of volvo 300 club isn't that nitly put together.
Its even the the best volvo looking 300 site i ,ve come across. sm29 sm40
I'am the proud owner of a 1990 volvo 340 GL CVT.
The body work has just been restored and is now (almost) spotless.
At the moment is the car stored in my garage.
Because there too much salt on the roads at the moment.
Being winter time and all. sm49
And i'll put a brand new engine in it in the Autum.
Because the Org.B14.4e has a burnt valve. sm38
The replasement at first was a r5 Alpine engine that came out an Daf66 rallycar.
But after comparing whit the std. engine ill go for an other solution.
Becoase the torc isn't enough for a 340.
Alpine 93 hp/6400rpm 115 nm /4000 rpm
Std B14-4e 71hp/5500rpm 108nm/3400
But the std.B14 is still a good engine to tune.
new bearings and piston rings.
A fast camshaft
Bleuprinted Crankshaft completely balansed out.
With flywheel and
Tuned cilinderhead.(Grinded inletcanals)
A bit higer compr. 10,5:1
Oldfasion pionts ignition in combi. with camshaft.
For more advance ignition so more torc.
maybe a DCOE weber to complete the job.
After the "running in" sm48 of the engine.
And i can stil use a lot of parts from the Alpine engine.
I also need to make other mods that make my volvo more "sporty".
Like brakes and suspention.
But the extereur wil remian mosty the same.
(For trafic-light suprises sm66 )
happy driving and greetings from holland. sm40

thanks for your mail and compliments.
My favorite sport. I'm not keen on high speed on motorway, but letting the traffic behind when
you push down is always a good joke (I use the 345 GLS for that)
this site is great because nice people meet here sm4 . This is all thanks to Duvel's great job
Your experience really interests me. Can you send us some picture of your car?
The idea of boosting a little the 1.4 renault engine seams very interesting to me. We'll never
make a monster of this one, but it's not the spirit. sm23

A while back i sent you guys a E-mail.
With almost the same storie.(I tryed to put the complete Alpine engine in my 340.)
That wil cost too much.! sm25
With custom exaust and everithing.
It wasn't running bad on the highway to but the revs are quite high with CVT.
120 kmp/u 4500 rpm.
i even had it at 170 once but the valvesprings could't handle that sm60 .
Running it at 6200 rmp.
But i think it whil go better with my Gr.N engine.
If you don't have fotos of my car(project)
I could send you some fotos.(With E-mail)
Becoase i don't know how to place them on this forum.
sorry sm88
I can give you loads of info on tinkering your B14 especialy with CVT.
Don't hasitate to ask. sm14

your revs are too high!
it shuld be around 3500 at 120kmh!
check your valves for vacum distribution to cvt!
mine did that when they were broken!

Thanks! BBF.
I thought something was not as it suposted to be.
For a while now the refs go to 4000 rpm with 80km/u on the odo meter. sm97
And the kick down button has no effect with means that he's stuk in kickdown.
Maybe my vacuum tank was the blame?
Putting to much vacuum on the system?
I placed it between the inlet man. and the EMVK with a one way valve.
This way the kick down doesn't take that long to "kick" in.
The refs are also climbing dramaticly and to the max power.
5500rmp 71 Hp wile you are under 70.
Got my car on 5500/6000 rpm in kickdown while i was traffic ligt sprinting.
The golf 4 TDI standing next to me was nowhere to be seen sm56 .
I'm already checking my primairi for vacuum. sm43
Taking my time to clain everyting.
But everithing including the big rubbers are in mint condison.
i 'm also putting new ATF oil in the drums.
And i replased the EMVK like a moth ago.
So i supect the hoses running to the back of leakage.

Hello everyone!
I have a updat on my project.
I've just took out the engine this weekend.
And i just brougt it to a engine tuner. sm18
I also took my "old radiator to a guy who fits a 340 1.7 diesel coolingblock in it.
With more cooling tubes running though it whil do its job better.
And its 10 euro cheaper than a new one. :)
This is also the place where i'l get my oil cooler rad.
Iam also using an Alpine weber 32 DIR 58T carberator on my engine.
Its kind of an experiment but i think it whil do nicely.
With only a few mods. this carb wil fit perfectly. sm40
Everything under the hood is going to be cleaned de-rusted an spaycanned in the right colour.
Thats for next weekend.
So i've got to work.Bye!

Whell its been a while and manny things have happend.

Thanks Duvel78 sm80 for putting my fotos up.

First of all the engine wasn't put togeter properly. sm38
So thats was the reason that it took so long for a reply.
Sorry guys! sm46

The engine was using oil like there was no tomoro sm91 .
And creating a big bleu/white smokescreen. sm26

I was very bussy trying to find the problem witch wasn't my fault.
So after 2800 km,s i got realy fet up whit it and i brought the engine back to the blokes who botged it togetter. sm64
The oil piston ring where rongly put in and the rong size and the smal rubber o rings above the valve where coming loose. sm14
they repaired everithing at no cost as they should.

I just put it back in agian.
I also got a lambda sond. placed in my Cat.
But i need to wait at my Feul/air meter from Lumination.
Its on backorder.
So iam waiting and waiting sm74
When it is in place it makes easy tinkering with Carb. settings posible.
Because its reading while your driving.

But i am not completly pleased with the performance of the car.
Althougt it is really great for a 1.4 sm48 .
From what i smoked at the trafic lights i gues from 0-100 km/u in 10/9,5 sec.
And nobody expects that! sm40
At 6000 rpm the engine still sounds/running very good.
So the balancing was a good step.

At the moment iam flowing an B14 cill. head.
Just to see if i could do it myself.
Its wherry much work but its saving 475 euros.
And iam very happy with the result so far.
You wouldend believe how bad these heads come out of the facory.
I also go back to the std. compression of 9,2:1
I hope that only flowed cill.head alone gives my engine much better performance.
So i can take a little reliabilety/and fuel econemy back.
