Welcome to the forum.
You may be able to get a good s/h wing possibly. There are a lot of 300's in the scrap yards.
Hi, thanks for the welcome, hopefully I'll find a wing in the righr colour!

Doesn't sound like a good day for 360's in the Basingstoke area

My cambelt snapped a couple of miles south of M3 Junction 7 this evening

Hear any nasty noises? IIRC the (stock) B200 isn't interference, so it should just be a case of lining everything up and slipping on a new belt.
cheers

I didn't, but then I was going at motorway speeds at the time so it was quite noisy. I'll try that and see what happens!

Hmm, I'm almost 100% sure that my B200E with the domed pistons and an A-cam IS interference and will break something if the cambelt goes.
Whether the milder cam of the B200K engine plus the dished unleaded pistons mean that the valves just clear the pistons I'm not so sure about.
Putting on a new belt and seeing how it goes would be a plan to start with.

A big thanks to Pete Farrell who sold me some bits for my sick 360 (suspension coil spring collapsed). That's some collection of cars you've got Pete, that variomatic 340 was very interesting! Good to meet someone as enthusiastic about cars as I am! I'm hopefully getting the strut fitted next week - looking forward to getting the car back on the road!

Hi, bad day for both of us. I hope that there's not too much damage to the engine!

As I said in the other thread, there's no compression, so it looks like multiple bent valves

Fortunately it looks like Pete/Carl have a spare engine, so hopefully she'll be back on the road before too long.

Old belt? Do yourself a favour and change the tensioner too, when you re-fit.
No compression on any of the pots? Bummer! A new head might do the trick. If you swap a complete unit, and the old bottom end is aok (and going spare), give me a shout, I might be interested...
cheers

No problem at all Ian, nice to meet you properly and have a good chat. As I said, if you need any help and the garage lets you down, Andy and myself are more than wlling to help. And bring it along to a meet one day and some of the V3M crew can have a look over it for you. Thanks for the brief ride in the V70 flying machine too!

Hi Pete, had the strut fitted yesterday. The front undertray is hanging down on the left-hand-side - I didn't get a chance to look at it last night as it was dark when I picked up the car. It would be great to have a hand with the car in the future - I appreciate the offer!

The undertrays are notorious for cracking on the 'rear' crossover bit - they're a square with a hole cut out in the centre for the sump, and the rearward side-to-side bit fails routinely. Back when 300s were commonplace on the road, you'd see more than not with the two characteristic 'tails' hanging down under the car...
...or is this a more fundamental problem than that?
Glad you're back up and running with the strut! Hopefully you saved the old one, and it can have its seat replaced.
cheers
James
