before I read it I was trying to work out why anything on a "muscle car " site would affect a 300 driver sorry

All cars from the 80's and 90's are rust buckets eh. Wanna try and find any rust on our 340

I've heard it said that the amount of pollution created building a car is equivalent to many years of use, so if all these 1995 and before cars are scrapped, with maybe 10 years of life left, and replaced with new sparkly ones, how many un-nessasary new cars have to be built. Maybe the car manufacturers are backing this plan

And I've heard recently that the government will take peoples cars for free (for scrap), so there may be less people selling parts cars cheap

Can't really be bothered to say much about it, another pointless politician thought - but I'd love to see how they'll enforce it all. I'll be suprised if it happens, a 10year old car nowdays is barely run in.

No way they're going to get that through. There're load of pre '92 cars driving around all over Germany's big cities. I can't wait to see someone trying to tell some Merc CEO that he can't take his gullwing out to the shops anymore.

If the worst comes to the worst, there'll be exceptions for residents, classics, cars used for commercial reasons etc etc, there'll be some way of getting round the problem. I'm sure it'll be the same in Scotland.

Who gives a $hit-Edinburgh is a hole and like all city centres should be avoided at all costs-what with t'internet and out of town shopping who needs to go to the city centre nowadays?
Usual kneejerk reaction from an elected official How these people actually get elected is beyond me-although I'm part of the problem as I stopped voting many yrs ago-although with President Blair and his cronies I'll probably make a token protest vote next time or emigrate if this madness continues.

Still won't help though. That Edinburgh / Stuttgart thing is a new EU rule, you'll have to go far to get away from that lot ...

What a stupid idea. So, those who cannot afford a brand new pile of crap on credit, which they'll pay over the odds for and end up never being able to afford, or those who just choose not to conform and enjoy, cherish and look after their 'rust buckets' or cars must either buy a new car, or walk, take the bus, train or pay for a taxi. Not likely! Where I live the public transport is diabolical and IMO it's all over priced. I'll continue using my old vehicles no matter what! Fine me........ I won't pay!

Looks like I won't be visiting Edinburgh then! Neither will my Dad..... If this scheme is a success, in other words, they make lots of money from fines, and they try and introduce it in lots of places, I think they'll have a battle on their hands. People need to object to it, and make a stand. Like what should have happened with the congestion charging, what a con, get charged to sit in traffic! What a joke.

This leads onto paying per mile. It'll become a nanny state, where you're every move is tracked, even more so that it already is. I won't be allowing anyone near my vehicles to install a sensor, or device to measure the mileage etc. Or if I did, or bought a car with one, it might have an unfortunate accident with some wire cutters, or high voltage, or just resort to a bit of FBH adjustment toolage!

What a load of old tosh Older vehicles only produce loads of pollutants if they're in bad shape, belching out excess emissions and oily smoke. If the engine's in good condition, then the car doesn't really pollute that much more than a catalysed car.

If the worst comes to the worst, I suppose you could always retro fit a catalytic convertor, but its a load of rubbish, just like if you buy an electric car, you pollute much more charging it up from the coal fired power station than you'd ever save by not using petrol, and solar panels, so chemically polluting and expensive to produce you never get back the energy used in producing them through using them. Its the same with cars, the best way to avoid damagind the environment is to keep your old car running.

I'm all for getting rid of 'old bangers' btw, which are scarcely roadworthy deathtraps, but not well maintained older cars.

Depends on your engine. A 1983 360 with a 90 bhp carb engine is supposed to do 165 kmh (103 mph). A 1985 360 GLT reaches 185 kmh (115 mph). MkIII versions with injected B200E engines are marginally slower, having 109 - 113 bhp depending whether they're fitted with catalytic converters or not.

But don't forget the 343 R-Sport, and the 340 1.7's...

Mine's a 109 bhp cat version. Still isn't enough to allow me into Edinburgh or Stuttgart in the future ...
