bad juju indeed.
we got the belt on, and we went to turn the engine by hand and well, all we got was stiff ness, and then the thing gave as if it was turning and we thought it was fucked untill we relaised, its just pulling it's self over the oil pump and not turning, the pulley shaft is ok, so bit stuck as to whats gone wrong, but it'll be an engine out job to check the oil pick up in the sump, weve taken the pully shaft out and thats okay,
mate reckons whats happen is its expanded as its got hot, and then fucked up and damaged something, hence we tookt he pulley shaft out and thats ok.
it will not turn what so ever, only between 12pm and 1pm bassically.

Is clearance an issue with the 1.7 sump? Mine seemed to be pretty close now you mention it.

ive used the 1.8 16v pick up on mine,
my oil when we had it in the garage on the auto test hit 106*C. which is fucking hot, so, its possible, i'll have a look when i take the enigne out, as i know adam went to a 1.7 turbo one in his.
i think even the renault one is pretty close to the bottom of the renault sump.
unfortunatly i wont find out till i can get the engine out really. - ive got a 1.8 bottom end waiting for me to pick up now also got the f3r and a 1.7 block that i can raid parts from lol. but the 1.7 is up at my fabricators.

Fingers crossed eh!
