What a chancer that guy is. Someone go to view it, go ballistic about the shaft, get it for £200 and drive home. If someone does that I'll give them a free driveshaft out of my spares mountain.

his car, his money, deal with it.. personally if i found a car as mint as that id do the same - slam, strip, weld.. job done just cause hes being a prat about it no need to get so offended. what youre forgetting is that at the end of the day its JUST a volvo... not some super duper cool rare thing that can only be found on the moon... dont get me wrong, i love the cars, otherwise i wouldn't have 3 of them :)
the more people we get that like to "modify" the more parts are gonna become available so its all good for the community

In last 6 months, in our country there has been 0 mint of these common Volvos on sale, there are only 8 360's in whole country up on sale and these used to be rather common vehicles, without 1000 you can't really even think about getting good one, mint ones will cost more.

You must remember that these cars are not being made anymore, so every day they are getting more rare, no matter how many there now would look to be in your country.

I wouldn't care a bit if car that would be in production would be done all those, used few times and wrapped around tree afterwards.

For some members this car is lot more important than some new GTR Nissan, it is called enthustiasm, to have say on board that is made for Volvo 300 that it is only a old Volvo and it does not matter, is something quite improbable, just think about it and where that does put you in context, I see not much of point saying such things really.

I agree that anyone can do what they like with their own money and property but please don't try and tell me that the trashing of perfectly good cars is good for the 340 scene in general. I also agree that 340s aren't the rarest or most desirable cars in the world but to actually state that you would 'slam, strip and weld' a mint car shows little regard for the 340 as a car worth saving, merely as a disposable plaything that you can throw away when you get bored with it...

not at all, jsut make reversible modifications, like all those things are - plenty of 340s in scrappys to get a new diff if needed.
i think there are more around than people think, its just unfortunately alot of those are locked away in some old dear's garage waiting to be found

You'd be amazed at how quickly these "bread and butter" cars really do disappear ... Old Mercs, BMWs, Porsches (and even the bigger Volvos) get cherished, wait a year or two and the MkIII will be as near-extinct as a MkI or an early MkII, even in the UK.

I beg to differ on that point. Getting few and far between in scrapyards.

That is where opinions differ.. For me 300-series or Volvos in general aren't "just Volvos". For me Volvos aren't a choice which I would have made because they are cheap, affordable and "just Volvos" which could be thought as dispensable for quick fun. I like Volvos because these cars have character, strong mechanis and have room for improvements which can be done with quite basic tools. I don't value cars generally by their monetary value or hype-value because I choose the cars for my self, not by the public opinion.

Still I agree that everyone can do whatever they want with their property but if I think some actions are idiotic I'm also entitled to have that opinon also. Though in Finland the dissapearance of good condition 300-series can't be put by drifters fault in any way. We don't have what you could even call a 300-series drift scene. Most 300-series have just rotten away and taken to wreckers after that.

Don't forget Jokamiesluokka, where they destroy all the old cars, equivalent for banger racing in UK.

Surely we can't say that would be drifting, but something far worse.

There are then lot of cars gone to 'field cars', usually those are quite rust buckets.

Here in Finland problem to drift scene is that snow and ice, sure you can drift then more easily, but car built for tarmac is barely able to move on snow, well really there is not much of grip when you have stiff suspension

I know few 300 series cars here that have been used in drifting, but tens of others have been in motorsprorts.

Surely, most cars are disappearing because they rot away, but after that has happened, then remaining ones are put into motorsport use, which has now lead to increased prices and very few being available.

Maybe we should all move to mercs, them are lot easier, parts availability is incredible, too bad there are no any interesting models, except G-Series

I've actually got a soft spot for old mercs. If I could afford one, I'd have one.

If you bought a 8yr old E class you'd soon change your mind.

Built to a budget and not very well at that,

Those ol' W123s are the last of the properly engineered Mercs.

Can't argue with the Germans mind, badge engineering at its best.
